Carol Benson, nee Hurley, of Mahwah, formerly of Upper Saddle River and Darien, Connecticut, died Feb. 11. She was 82. A graduate of the College of New Rochelle, she was a fourth grade teacher in Darien, Connecticut before marrying and raising her family. Later, she worked as a pre-school teacher and as a contributing editor at the Town Journal. She is survived by her husband Thomas J. Benson, her children Thomas W. Benson of Weston Massachusetts, Linda Meiman of Ramsey, Beth O’Connor of Lisbon, Connecticut, and Carol Dannenfelser of Ithaca New York, and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers John Donahue Hurley and William C. Hurley. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Memorial donations may be made to the Ramsey Ambulance Corps, Valley Hospital, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Anthony Di Paola of Allendale, formerly of Suffern, New York and Tarpon Springs, Florida, died Feb. 11. He was 98. He is survived by his children Kim Anton, Tony Inserillo, Patti Stander, and Meri Halbohm, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his aunt Vicky Maero, and his cousin Stella Maero. He was predeceased by his first wife Marie, his second wife Jennie, and his brother Philip. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Dolores A. Herrick, nee Potenza, of Ramsey, formerly of Allendale, Hoboken, and New York, died Feb. 15. She was 78. She was a psychotherapist in private practice, with offices in Hoboken and New York City and Ramsey. She previously taught business education at Berkeley College. She was an active member of the Guardian Angel R.C. Church in Allendale. She is survived by her husband Leonard, her children Beth Gribbon of Singapore and David Herrick of Montclair, and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Alexander Potenza. Donald William Hagedorn of Mahwah died Feb. 13. He was 71. He was a 1957 graduate of Eastern Christian Schools. He received his BS in 1961, MS in 1963, and doctorate in engineering science at Newark College of Engineering, now known as New Jersey Institute of Technology. For 34 years, he was a process development engineer with American Cyanamid, where he received three patents and became lead process engineer for the design of two herbicide formulation facilities and two herbicide syntheses factories. He was a charter member of Flanders Valley Christian Reformed Church in Flanders, where he

served as an elder and taught Sunday school for 10 years. He also served as an elder at Franklin Lakes Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by his wife Martina, his children David William Hagedorn of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Donna Beth Bellavia of Mahwah, and Daniel James Hagedorn of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, five grandchildren, and his sisters Ruth Knyfd of Midland Park and Dorothy Vander Gutche of Hudsonville, Michigan. Catherine M. Leesman of Franklin Lakes died Feb. 15. She was 92. Before retiring, she was a coordinator for the Curtis Wright Corporation in Wood-Ridge. She was a member of the Franklin Lakes Seniors. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Josephine (Tanis) Leesman. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home in Franklin Lakes. Catherine M. Lillis, nee Tully, of Saddle River, formerly of Cresskill and Closter, died Feb. 13. She was 89. Before marrying, she worked for J.P. Maguire New York City. She later worked for Allyn & Bacon publishers. She was a member of Saint Mary’s R.C. Church Closter and Saint Therese R.C. Church in Cresskill. She had been a member of the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and the Saint Mary’s Choir. She is survived by her children Marcella Guilford of Belmont, California, Catherine Adrion of Hillsdale, Cecilia O’Donnell of Allendale, and Stephen of Ridgewood, 10 grandchildren, and three nieces. She was predeceased by her husband James T. Lillis, her son James, and her brother Andrew. Arrangements were made by Moritz Funeral Home in Closter. Marcelle Peckham, nee Bogdonis, of Saddle River died Feb. 15. She is survived by her children Jeffrey E. of Little Falls and Michael H. of Mesa, Arizona, grandchildren Harry M. Peckham and Laurie Decker of Forked River, and Tracy L. and Travis N. Peckham of Camano Island and Stanwood, Washington, and her brother Edward F. Bagdonis of Newburgh, New York. She was predeceased by her husband Harry E. Peckham. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Alan F. Segal of Ho-Ho-Kus died on Feb. 13. He was 65. Before retiring, he was the Ingeborg Rennert Professor of Jewish Studies at Barnard College, where he was employed since 1980. He received a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College, a master’s from Brandeis University, and a Ph.D. from Yale University. He is survived by his wife Meryl, his children Ethan and Jordan, and his siblings Eric, and Carol Foxman. Arrangements were made by Louis Sub-

Schmitz, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Richard J. Templin Sr. of Ramsey died Feb. 15. He was 80. He was a builder and contractor for over 55 years. He was the quarterback and vice president of the Class of 1950 at Ramsey High School. He attended Montclair State University. He is survived by his wife Inez, his children Vaughn and Richard Jr., and three grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Council members were in agreement that places already named for someone, such as Veterans Park or Emily Rice Playground, would maintain their names. Other restrictions could be placed as well, with the council retaining all rights to the facilities. “Can you live with a name on this building, for instance?” asked Kratz. “If you are wedded to the names you have now, there is no use in pursuing the matter further. They don’t want to spin their wheels.” Council members agreed to discuss the proposal around town before proceeding with any commitment.
