Admission is free, but donations are accepted. All donations will go directly to Janice Stegle. Attendees may bring their own light snacks and beverages. Students of the Month announced As part of the student recognition program at Waldwick High School and Waldwick Middle School, faculty members have named the Student of the Month for January. High school students who were honored are Alexandra Giordano for athletics, Jennifer Eckstein for instrumental music, and Michael Marrero for business. Middle school students who received recognition are sixth grader Ryan DiPrimo, seventh grader Sarah Peepall, and eighth grader Alli Reynolds. WEF sets Town Wide Garage Sale The Waldwick Education Foundation will host a Town Wide Garage Sale on April 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All are invited to clear out their closets for a good cause. Last year, over 100 houses participated. For a $25 fee ($20 if received by March 26), participants hold their own Garage Sales at their residences in Waldwick. Included in the fee will be a listing on the map announcing the sale, a sale marker, and advertising of the sale. Association plans Golf Outing The Waldwick Baseball/Softball Association will host a Golf Outing fundraiser on Monday, May 16 at Black Bear Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit two new scholarships that will be awarded to graduating members of the high school’s baseball and softball teams in recognition of their achievements in sports and in academics. Club hosts Sunday Dinner The Italian American Social Club of Waldwick will present Sunday Dinner at Mamma’s on Feb. 20. All proceeds will benefit the alcohol- and drug-free 2011 Waldwick Students at The Little School of Waldwick have been warming up to their lesson about hibernation. In addition to learning about how different animals adapt to the winter weather, students brought in their own bears to put in the hibernation cave they constructed. They will see them again after they wake from their long winter nap when they celebrate spring at their Teddy Bear Picnic. Time for hi-brrrrrr-nation! Graduation Ball. All are welcome to attend and experience real homemade tomato/meat sauce, quality durum pasta cooked on the spot al dente, and insalata with Sicilian olive oil served in the traditional Italian family-style. A special performance by musical guest Greg Caldarone is included. ESL students to tour borough hall Students of the Waldwick Public Library’s English as a Second Language programs will get a lesson in municipal government when they tour the borough’s administration building on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. The tour is one of a series of field trips planned to familiarize foreign-born library patrons with American history, customs, and government. Other tours organized by ESL coordinators Kathy Garden and Dorothy Lux included the Hermitage, Fairway Market, the public safety building, and area restaurants. Waldwick Library hosts two ESL programs that are free and open to adults who want assistance learning and speaking English. ESL Conversation Group meets on Mondays at 10:15 a.m. The program is designed to engage students in lively dialogue about issues they face in their daily lives. The group meets on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. Designed for students at all levels, the class focuses on reading and comprehension, but includes other activities to assist students in learning the English language. Film Series features screen debuts Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction setting the film in its historical context will precede each screening. The theme for the month of February is screen debuts. The schedule includes: Feb. 17, “Goodbye, Mr. Chips” starring Greer Garson (1939); and Feb. 24, “Golden Boy” starring William Holden (1939).
