ECF uses the community’s contributions to support the costs associated with provid¬ing free services to New Jersey children who have cancer. Approximately 70 cents from every dollar goes towards direct care for our families. We thank you on behalf of all of these families, and urge you to continue to help us help them. Help Kent and his family: Kent is a young boy of four who was diagnosed with leukemia in September. He is currently in Columbia University Hospital after being transferred from Saint Joseph’s in Paterson where his family lives. Kent has been in a coma for over a month and his health is not improving. He lives with his mom and three siblings, including two sisters, ages seven and five, and a three-year-old brother. His parents are divorced. Kent’s mom feels it’s very important for her to be with her son every day at the hospital. Each morning, she gets her other children ready, drops them off at school and takes public transportation to New York City to spend a few hours with Kent, before hurrying back to Paterson to pick up her other kids from school. Kent’s mom is unable to work due to this grueling schedule and taking care of her children’s needs. She also has very little family support in the area, and there is no one to watch the children in the evenings or on weekends. The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club (www.bergenhighlandsrotary. org) recently hosted Lieutenant Dwane Raz¬zetti, commander of the Bergen County Bomb Squad, at one of its regular weekly meetings. Lt. Razzetti gave members an introduction to the bomb squad and its work in the north Jersey area. The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club has been supporting educational and charitable needs in Allendale, Mahwah, Ramsey, Saddle River and Upper Saddle River since 1952. The Club provides col¬lege scholarships for local students and funding for local causes such as The Center for Food Action. Members run the children’s rides at Ramsey Day and Mahwah Day, with proceeds going toward the Club’s charitable activities. As part of Rotary International, the Club also raises funds to support educational, medical and sanitary facilities in Nicaragua and Haiti.
