Redesigned website unveiled The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has unveiled its newly redesigned website. On the site are links to the New York Times Best-Sellers List, BCCLS, the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus website, the Ho-HoKus Public School, and reference resources. There is also information on BeAT, managing borrowing from home with a valid library card, children’s programs, and new books that the library has recently acquired. Seniors plan events Members of the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building, 334 North Franklin Turnpike in HoHo-Kus. A special presentation on wills and estates will be given by Bergen County Surrogate Michael Dressler at the Feb. 8 meeting. (This meeting was rescheduled from Jan. 25.) On Feb. 22, Maury Lubman of Granny’s Attic will provide appraisals for members on one or two items per member. Attendees can look forward to the following programs: a musical program by folksinger Steve Kelman, a visit by Benjamin Franklin interpreter Jack Sherry, an appearance by the Garden State Harmonica Club, and a program entitled “Castles of New Jersey.” Beverages and desserts are served at noon. Residents of both towns may enroll their children in grades kindergarten through nine by accessing the HHK/SR Baseball and Softball Association website at http://www.hhksrbsa.com/ home.html. The cost for registration is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. Registration ends Feb. 2. Library accepts exhibits The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus, wants to hear from area residents who want to display their original artwork or interesting collections. Register men’s softball league Registration is underway for the HoHo-Kus/Saddle River Men’s Softball League’s spring season. Now in its 38th year, the league is modified-pitch style
and plays Sunday mornings from March 27 to the end of June. The cost per player is $85. Registration deadline is March 1. Foundation hosts Annual Dinner Dance The Ho-Ho-Kus Education Foundation’s Annual Dinner Dance and Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Park Ridge Marriott. The theme for this year’s gala is “The Ho-Ho-Kus Tree of Life: Supporting Our Children’s Growth through Family, Community, and Education.” The evening will feature food, open bar, music, dancing, auctions, and more. Tickets are $125 per person. Local businesses are invited to sponsorships through ads and donations. All contributions are tax-deductible. This event is the foundation’s primary fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds from the benefit fund a variety of teacherrequested grants that directly impact the educational experience for the Ho-Ho-Kus School students in all grade levels. The Ho-Ho-Kus Education Foundation has raised funds to sponsor programs such as the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School’s new laptop lab, through the purchase of 24 new laptops. Over the years, the foundation has enhanced the educational experience for the school children by purchasing Smart Boards, and by supporting the TV studio and numerous teacher-requested programs. Preschool program announces openings The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School has six general education student openings in the integrated preschool program that will begin in September 2011. The integrated preschool program incorporates the education of children with special education needs with children of the general education population. Students in the program range in age from three through five. The program is held in Ho-
Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, HoHo-Kus, from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., Monday through Friday, in accordance with the school calendar. To be eligible, general education students must be at least three years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2011. Applications for general education preschoolers are due by Jan. 14 and may be picked up in the main office of the school or downloaded from the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School website at www. hohokus.org. Students will be screened for admission to the program. The six openings will be filled by a lottery on Feb. 17. Tuition for 2011-12 is $3,000. VFW welcomes new members The Ho-Ho-Kus VFW, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, welcomes new members. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Post Home, 620 Cliff Street, HoHo-Kus. For additional information, call (201) 445-1121. Box Tops for Education drive is now underway The Home and School Association is collecting Box Tops for Education Labels. The community is asked to save the labels on purchases and bring them to the collection box located in borough hall. Each label is worth 10 cents to the school. With the community’s participation, the school can earn cash to fund programs and equipment. For more information about this program, visit boxtops4education.com. Reminder of hours at borough hall Hours of operation at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Due to budgetary restrictions, borough hall employees are not permitted to work overtime without special permission. Ho-Ho-Kus officials ask residents and others who conduct business at borough hall to leave enough time for staff members to carry out their requests during regular hours of operation. The police department remains open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department of public works is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.
