Waldwick December 21, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 Russell J. “Buddy” Litchult will be stepping down as mayor of Waldwick on Jan. 1, but he is “not going away.” He said he will still stay involved but now have more time for the myriad organizations he belongs to, including the Senior Group, the veterans’ organizations, and the Knights of Columbus. He is also active in St. Luke’s Church, opening the building on Sundays for morning Masses and helping with the collection accounting. Litchult announced last January he would not seek reelection to a second term so as to give someone else a chance to run for the office. Councilman Thomas Giordano was elected to the position in November and will be sworn in Jan. 1. Litchult said the greatest accomplishments during his tenure were the adoption of the sump pump ordinance and the erection of solar panels on the municipal building’s Mayor Litchult will remain active after leaving office roof. “The council has done a commendable job, and I am glad to have been part of that administration,” he said with typical modesty. “For four years we worked with each other for the good of the town, regardless of party– that was never brought in,” he added. “He will do well,” he said of Giordano. “I congratulate him and wish him the best of luck.” During his term as mayor, Litchult has made it a point (continued on page 11) The health department building in Waldwick recently received much needed renovations, courtesy of the Waldwick Lions Club. The organization originally constructed the building in 1983. Lions member Randy Reveille replaced the pull-down stairs going to the attic storage area and fixed a back door to the building. Lions make repairs to health building Public Health Nurse Carol Shepard said the work was much needed and had been done with minimal disruption to her operations. “It’s marvelous. They saw it needed to be done, and took the initiative and did it,” she added. “Those stairs were really worn out.”
