Waldwick December 21, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Bids awarded Valued employees for Moore Avenue drainage project Waldwick will be fixing a drainage pipe that collapsed in several locations between catch basins along Moore Avenue and is giving adjoining residents the opportunity to hook their sump pumps into the new system. Borough Administrator Gary Kratz said that of the six homes affected, two had already signed on to interconnect to the 400-ft. pipe. The borough council last week awarded the contract for the pipe replacement to the low bidder, Trino Associates LLC, at a base bid of $38,650. In all 16 companies submitted bids ranging in price to a high of $86,250. Kratz reported that the trailblazing sump pump ordinance the council adopted in May, is having the desired results. He said during Hurricane Irene, the reduced flow from the sump pumps had allowed to Derby Lane sewer pumping station to handle the flow during peak times without difficulty. Of the original target area, Kratz said, the owners of 25 of the 50 illegal sump pumps had come in voluntarily right away with alternatives to their unauthorized pumps. The greater proof of the success, however, Kratz said, is in the fact that the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority has reduced the borough’s 2012 assessment by $120,000. “The work is bearing fruit. We are processing less clean water,” said Councilman Frank Palladino. “I thank the council for putting through that ordinance,”added Mayor Russull Litchult. The Waldwick Mayor and Council last week presented gifts to long-time employees in recognition of their years of service.
