Parents of private school kindergarten students who will be attending first grade in the Waldwick Public School District in September 2012 are also asked to register their children by Jan. 25. These students must meet the same immunization requirements as kindergarteners. Ambulance corps seeks volunteers The Waldwick Ambulance Corps is seeking new members to continue to provide residents with the highest quality service at no charge to patients and their families. Anyone interested in volunteering to assist those in need may stop by the Waldwick Ambulance Building to pick up
an application or visit www.waldwickems.com. Since 1952, the Waldwick Ambulance Corps has been a privately run, volunteer service that depends upon volunteers for the emergency care of Waldwick’s residents. Reflective safety patches now available Waldwick CERT is selling Flashbrite reflective patches for jackets, backpacks, luggage, briefcases, bicycles, helmets, and more. Patches are $3 each and are available at the Waldwick Public Safety Building at 15 East Prospect Street or by calling Jean Paras at (201) 481-3333 or Tom Schuckman at (201) 447-2646. Solid waste reminder Waldwick residents may throw away large furniture items, mattresses, wooden/plastic outdoor furniture, and carpets in the regular waste. There is no need to contact the borough clerk first. Corrugated cardboard is not permitted in the waste stream and must be taken to the recycling center at 19 Industrial Way. Baseball and softball registration open The Waldwick Baseball/Softball Association is accepting online registration for the upcoming 2012 season. A discounted rate is available to those who register before Jan. 15. For more information, to register a child, or to volunteer to coach, visit the WBSA website at www.waldwickbaseball.com. Flu shots still available The Waldwick Health Department still has a limited amount of flu vaccine available. Anyone interested in receiving the vaccine may contact Public Health Nurse Carol Shepard at (201) 444-3914 for an appointment. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to receive a flu vaccine. Residents must bring their Medicare Part B card in order to receive the vaccine at no cost. The Waldwick Health Department, through a contract with Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, will directly bill Medicare. A $25 fee will be charged to those who do not have Medicare Part B. Those who have a Medicare HMO, also known as Medicare Advantage, may choose to go to their primary care provider or pay $25 for a flu vaccination. Medicare HMOs will not be accepted at the flu program. Used cell phones, cartridges sought The 2012 Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee is seeking donations of used cell phones and empty laser and ink jet printer cartridges. The fundraiser will help support this year’s alcohol-free and drug-free celebration for graduating high school seniors. Drop off locations include: the Waldwick Stop N Shop, 19 Wyckoff Avenue; the Waldwick Municipal Building, 63 Franklin Turnpike; and the Waldwick Police Department, 15 East Prospect Street. Register for kindergarten, first grade Registration for the September 2012 kindergarten classes in Waldwick will be held Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Julia A. Traphagen and Crescent schools. Parents or guardians must bring the child’s birth certificate or other proof of age and two documents proving residency. Acceptable residency documents include utility bills with the name and address, in addition to a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. To be eligible for next fall’s class, children must be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2012, and must have a complete physical and eye examinations after Sept. 1, 2011, and have complete immunizations against diphtheria, pertus-
