Auxiliary plans Holiday Luncheon The Waldwick Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Christmas/Holiday Luncheon at Andrea’s Restaurant on Thursday, Dec. 8 at noon. Local sponsors sought The athletic department at Waldwick High School is seeking community sponsors for its sports poster program. Book Club to discuss McCall Smith novel The Waldwick Library Book Club will host a discussion of “The Sunday Philosophy Club” by Alexander McCall Smith on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7:15 p.m. Murder and moral obligation mingle in this whimsical novel from the author of the smash hit “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.” Set in Edinburgh, the novel introduces a new detective series featuring the irrepressibly curious Isabel Dalhousie, a single woman of independent means who edits the esteemed Review of Applied Ethics and presides over the titular club. Copies of the book are available at the library’s circulation desk. The club welcomes new members and drop-ins regardless of residency. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. For more information, call (201) 652-5104. Holiday cake and pie fundraiser set The Friends of the Waldwick Library will again be offering gourmet cakes and pies for the holidays. The cakes and pies, provided by Carousel Cakes Bakery, are available at discount prices. These specialty desserts retail for $40 in gourmet shops, but may be ordered through the Waldwick Library at $15 per pie and $17 per cake. Black and white mousse, carrot, New York blackout, New York cheese, and mousse supreme are among the cake offerings. Pie selections include coconut custard, Toll House, pumpkin, pumpkin cheese, pecan, and a variety of fruit pies. Order forms, a catalogue of desserts, and other details are available at the library’s circulation desk. The deadline for placing orders for Christmas is noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 for Dec. 22 pickup. The Friends of the Waldwick Library is an organization that raises funds to provide programs and services that are beyond the scope of the library’s annual operating budget. Lions host children’s Christmas Party The Waldwick Lions Club will hold its annual Children’s Christmas Party on Sunday, Dec. 11 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Administration Building, 63 Franklin Turnpike. All children who reside in Waldwick are welcome to attend and meet Santa Claus.

Register for kindergarten, first grade Registration for the September 2012 kindergarten classes in Waldwick will be held Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Julia A. Traphagen and Crescent schools. Parents or guardians must bring the child’s birth certificate or other proof of age and two documents proving residency. Acceptable residency documents include utility bills with the name and address, in addition to a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. To be eligible for next fall’s class, children must be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2012, and must have a complete physical and eye examinations after Sept. 1, 2011, and have complete immunizations against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, rubella, rubeola, mumps, hepatitis B, and chickenpox. Parents or guardians must furnish a written record of the month, day, and year of all immunizations. All students will be screened in the spring. Registration forms are available at www.waldwick. k12.nj.us under each school’s website or may be picked up at Crescent and Traphagen schools during school hours. Anyone who cannot attend registration should call Crescent School at (201) 445-0690 or Traphagen School at (201) 445-0730 as soon as possible. Parents of private school kindergarten students who will be attending first grade in the Waldwick Public School District in September 2012 are also asked to register their children by Jan. 25. These students must meet the same immunization requirements as kindergarteners.
Used cell phones, cartridges sought The 2012 Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee is seeking donations of used cell phones and empty laser and ink jet printer cartridges. The fundraiser will help support this year’s alcohol-free and drug-free celebration for graduating high school seniors. Drop off locations include: the Waldwick Stop N Shop, 19 Wyckoff Avenue; the Waldwick Municipal Building, 63 Franklin Turnpike; and the Waldwick Police Department, 15 East Prospect Street. Ambulance corps seeks volunteers The Waldwick Ambulance Corps is seeking new members to continue to provide residents with the highest quality service at no charge to patients and their families. Anyone interested in volunteering to assist those in need may stop by the Waldwick Ambulance Building to pick up an application or visit www.waldwickems.com. Since 1952, the Waldwick Ambulance Corps has been a privately run, volunteer service that depends upon volunteers for the emergency care of Waldwick’s residents. Reflective safety patches now available Waldwick CERT is selling Flashbrite reflective patches for jackets, backpacks, luggage, briefcases, and more. Patches are $3 each and are available at the Waldwick Public Safety Building at 15 East Prospect Street.
