December 7, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 23 Saddle River Valley Notes Friends host Book Sale, Holiday Boutique The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library’s annual Holiday Book Sale and Boutique will be held Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Many “like new” fiction and non-fiction, soft and hard cover selections will be available for children and adults. Books will be sold on the library’s lower level. The Holiday Boutique, which will be held on the upper level of the library, offers unique gifts for all ages. Cultural center offers children’s events The Saddle River Cultural Center will offer “The Nutcracker Suite” on Saturday, Dec. 10. The 45-minute program, which will be performed by the Koslov Dance Studio, is a shorter version of Tchaikovsky’s famous holiday ballet and will include narration for a young audience. Attendees are invited to meet the performers and pose for pictures after the show. The 3 p.m. performance is suitable for children age four and up. Tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance. On Dec. 18, “A Christmas Carol” will be performed at 3 p.m. This one-hour production of Charles Dickens’ famous tale of Ebenezer Scrooge is geared toward children eight and older. Advance tickets are $12. The center will offer School’s Out Camps for all ages during the school break. Magic, Circus Fun, and Broadway Kids will be offered on Dec. 28. On Dec. 29, programs on Lego Star Wars, Motorized Things, and Girl’s Club will be available. The cost to attend a half-day session (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) is $45; a full-day session (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) is $80. Book groups announce meetings Coffee Talk Book Group will discuss “The Human Stain” by Philip Roth on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Copies of the books are available at the circulation desk. Preschool program announces openings The Upper Saddle River School District has six general educational openings available in its Integrated Preschool Program. Applications for the September 2012 program are available at www.usrschoolsk8. com or call (201) 961-6300 to request an application by mail. The Integrated Preschool Program is a nursery school program that incorporates special education children with general education preschoolers. The program is held at Reynolds School. Special education youngsters are placed in the program through an evaluation process administered by the Special Services Department. Children attend five half-days a week from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The first 15 applicants will be screened in early December. Other applicants will be placed on a waiting list. The six openings will be offered by Dec. At a recent AAA North Jersey Traffic Safety luncheon, the community of Upper Saddle River was presented with an AAA Award of Merit. The award is presented to communities for their outstanding traffic safety program activities. The Upper Saddle River Police Department combats aggressive driving and other dangerous traffic offenses through enforcement and educational activities in the community. These include the DARE program, “Otto the Auto” and Halloween safety programs. AAA honors police department 21. The current tuition is $3,750; the 201213 tuition will be determined by June. To be eligible, a general education student must be four years old on or before Oct. 1, 2012. A birth certificate, copy of immunizations, and four proofs of residency will be required. The closing date for all applications is Nov. 30, 2011. Register for recreation basketball Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Recreational Basketball is holding online registration for boys and girls in grades one and two through Dec. 31, after which time a $25 late fee will be imposed. The cost is $80 for children in grades one and two. There is a maximum fee of $210 per family. Registration for those in grades three through eight is closed.
