(Rain date: Sept. 11.) The event will take place at Lions Park from 2 to 7 p.m. and will feature family games, face painting, carnival rides, and stage performances. Food wristbands may be purchased in advance at the Upper Saddle River Library or at borough hall for $30 for a family up to six members; or $10 for an individual. There is no charge for seniors (age 62 and over) or for children under six years of age. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic. Trike-A-Thon benefit set The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will host a Saint Jude Trike-A-Thon at Upper Saddle River Day on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Trike-A-Thon will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Sponsored by the Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission, the event will teach riding-toy safety while raising funds for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. The event is open to children in pre-K through grade eight. The Upper Saddle River community is invited to sponsor children entered in the Trike-A-Thon by visiting www. mytrikeathon.org and pledging a donation. Donations may be made to individuals or to the event, and will also be accepted at the SRVJWC table at Upper Saddle River Day. Register for fall tennis clinics Registration is now being accepted for the 2011 fall tennis clinics offered by Upper Saddle River Recreation. The five-week session will be held at the newly renovated Wickersham Tennis Courts, located in front of the Reynolds School. The clinics will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning on Sept. 12. Lions plan Golf Outing The Saddle River Valley Lions Club will hold its Sixth Annual Golf Outing at the Falkirk Estate and Country Club in Central Valley, New York on Sept. 12. The $100 per golfer entrance cost will include a light breakfast, lunch, prizes, golf cart, and all fees. For the first time, all golfers will have an opportunity to win a $5,000 hole-in-one prize. All proceeds from this outing will Summer soiree benefit the blind and visually impaired, and other health related charities. Juniors collect donations for veterans The Saddle River Valley Newcomers International Group hosted a ‘Summer Soiree’ at a member’s home, recently. They had great weather, delicious food and lots of fun! The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is seeking donations of clothing and personal products to benefit veterans’ homes located in Menlo Park, Paramus, and Vineland. The homes are open to men and women who have served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. The residents, who live on a fixed living allowance, have their health needs met, but are in need of personal care items and basic clothing. The club is seeking donations of the following items: men’s new (with tags attached) sweatshirts and sweatpants in size large through 3XL, and T-shirts in medium through 3XL; deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, denture care products (no liquids); batteries; sunglasses with dark lenses; and electric razors.
