The program is in need of supplies to assist tutors who are helping the children read. Julian is collecting new or slightly used books including informational books -- the type that could assist children with school reports since many do not have computers; picture books; chapter books; and gift cards to Barnes & Noble. Donations may be dropped off by Aug. 18 at 40 Lilline Lane, Upper Saddle River. To arrange for a pickup, call (201) 686-8824. Residents are asked to watch for the survey and help the governing body by filling it out, regardless of whether they participated in the original survey. The surveys, one per family, are to be returned to borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road by Nov. 1. Residents will be asked for their opinions on a variety of topics, including traffic and safety, controlling costs, preservation, and recreation. The results of the survey will be tallied and released by Jan. 1, 2012.
