The Scouts recently distributed bags, which Allendale residents are asked to fill with non-perishable foods, such as pasta, tomato sauce in plastic jars, canned soups, cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, etc. Residents are asked to place the filled bags on their steps, or in another visible location, on April 23. The boys will collect the bags of food during their regularly scheduled paper drive. The food will go to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. Easter service offered Archer United Methodist Church will hold a 10:30 service on Easter Sunday, April 24. Grant applications available The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc. will accept grant proposals through April 25. Parents, teachers, local business people, students, staff, and members of the community are encouraged to make proposals for projects or programs that are in keeping with the foundation’s mission to enhance and broaden the educational experience of all students attending Allendale’s Hillside and Brookside schools. Donations sought for Project Graduation Project Graduation, the alcohol-and-drug-free graduation party planned and executed by a committee of Northern Highlands parent volunteers, is seeking donations from families and businesses to help defray the cost of this event to students. Financial contributions may be made to Project Graduation 2011, c/o Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue, Allendale, NJ 07401. The Project Graduation concept was introduced 15 years ago by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a means of keeping graduating seniors safe from the perils of drinking and driving on the “high risk” night of graduation. Football registration underway The Northern Highlands Junior Football Association invites players in grades two through eight who reside in Allendale and Upper Saddle River to join the Bulldogs for the upcoming tackle football season. The season will begin in mid-August. Thrift shop announces Saturday opening The Clothes Lines Thrift Shop will be open on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shop, which has a large selection of spring clothing for the entire family, is accepting donations of spring and summer items. Due to the limited storage, no more winter items can be accepted. The regular hours for the thrift shop are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items may be dropped off anytime during regular hours. The Clothes Line Thrift Shop will be closed April 22, Good Friday, and the first week in May to prepare for the Attic, Basement & Garage Sale scheduled for May 7 and hosted by Archer United Methodist Church. Garage Sale donations sought The Archer United Methodist Church Annual Attic, Basement, and Garage Sale is now accepting sellable donations of gently used furniture, linens, small appliances, kitchen accessories, holiday items, sporting goods, toys, bikes, lawn equipment, baby items, and books. Bargain books available Bargain books are available at the Allendale Library. Current and topical books, tapes, and videos for adults and children may be purchased at bargain prices in the lobby of the Lee Memorial Library at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. On display are many children’s books, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, and current best-sellers. The sale is ongoing and the shelves are restocked daily. Books are priced from 25 cents to $1. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Drury has been involved with the Waldwick Soccer Association for eight years, and has been a member of the Waldwick Soccer Board for five years. He is a member of the Waldwick Zoning Board of Adjustment, and served two years on the committee that produces the annual Waldwick Graduation Ball. He and his wife, Linda, are the parents of a daughter and a son and the grandparents of three. Frey has lived in Waldwick since 2007. A former police officer, he is a member of the Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department and a professional firefighter in Hoboken. He is a graduate of Hudson Catholic Regional High School in Jersey City and is currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Bergen Community College.
