Local band to perform during this year’s 5K Run
“Frantic,” a local classic rock band, will perform (weather permitting) during the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce’s 5K Run – 1 Mile Walk on May 1 at the Waldwick High School track. A W Entertainment DJ will be set up at the high school turf field and at the intersection of Hopper and Crescent avenues to cheer on participants. More than 500 runners and walkers are expected to the Grand Prix sanctioned event through the USATF-NJ. Massage Envy Spa will be the presenting sponsor. “Right now everything is looking good, and we have instituted more efficiencies than in the past. It’s been a long winter, and people feel more motivated to get back in shape,” commented Chamber President Christine Figliuolo. “We just need them to come up and register early so they can be part of the first 300.” Figliuolo added that residents not wishing to participate can still have an active role by coming out to the field or lining the streets to cheer for the runners/walkers. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Waldwick community, with a special donation given to the “Kisses 4 Kelly” fundraising effort. A scenic course, free mini massages by Massage Envy, random prize drawings and refreshments in addition to the music will all add up to a fun day. Male and female top overall finishers will receive a watch donated by Plaza Jewelers. Top male and female Waldwick winners will receive a $50 gift certificate from New Balance North Jersey and their names will be inscribed on the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce 5K plaque in Borough Hall. Medals and gift certificates will be given to all first place finishers in each of the nine age brackets. More than 25 local businesses have risen to the challenge and generously contributed as sponsors, while others are donating food. Ho-Ho-Kus Bagels is donating mini bagels; Starbucks of Wyckoff is providing coffee, and Stop & Shop is contributing fruit and water. The first 300 registrants will receive commemorative tshirts and deluxe goody bags, and early registration ends April 22. For online registration or additional information, visit www.waldwickchamber.com or www.raceforum.com or call Kim Post at 201-693-6734.
The call is going out to area residents to join forces to alleviate some of the burden being experienced by Laura Adams, a Waldwick resident and business owner who has been diagnosed with AML, a rare form of leukemia. Laura, along with her husband Chuck, owns Take Away Gourmet, an off-site catering business located at 26 E. Prospect Ave., Waldwick. Throughout the next several months, several fund raising events are being planned. This current event is one of love and time, not money. Laura is in search of a bone marrow donor. Finding a match will be the first step on her long road to recovery. Her family and friends are asking that everyone visit www.BeTheMatch.org for more information about how to join the National Marrow Donor Pro-
