Waldwick April 13, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Crescent School Principal Karen Mulroe will retire August 1 after 12 years in the district. The Waldwick Board of Education is expected to officially accept her resignation at its April 18 meeting. “Karen has served the district well, and we wish her the best in her retirement,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patricia Raupers. “I have many, many great memories of my years at Crescent. Those memories and the accomplishments that happened at Crescent School and in Waldwick will be with me forever,” she said. “I feel I made solid relationships with the families, that I really took the time to know the students and families and address their needs and the teachers’,” she added. Crescent Principal Karen Mulroe to retire Mulroe said she feels she was a facilitator for change at Crescent, having brought in new programs, revising the curriculum, and revamping technology. She said under her tenure all classrooms were equipped with interactive SmartBoards, new computers were provided for classrooms and teachers, including a computer in a cart, and a mini computer lab was set up for student use. Mulroe praised the Crescent staff as “a great staff: strong, innovative, energetic, and working hard to provide for all the students,” and also expressed appreciation to the PSO for all it does for the school and the children. She said she was happy that the Crescent School building needs were being addressed, including painting of all the classrooms and replacement of the all-purpose room floor. Mulroe said she plans to travel and take up golf after retiring, but said she would look to begin a second career involving children, since her husband, William Engler, still has a few years to go before retiring. They have four children, two still in college. Prior to coming to Waldwick, Mulroe spent 25 years in the Bloomfield School System as supervisor of instruction and director of special services and was also a special education teacher. Dr. Raupers said interviews to replace Mulroe in the K-5 school will begin in May. Go Green ... Save Green. Make your home beautiful from the outside in.
