Allendale April 6, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 Borough wins Silver Award for safety improvements by John Koster The Borough of Allendale recently received a Silver Award and a check for $800 from the Bergen County Joint Insurance Fund for a 92-point improvement in the borough’s safety record out of a possible 100-point improvement. Arthur Caughlen of the Nelson-Patterson Insurance Agency, active with JIF, presented the award to Mayor Vince Barra and members of the council at the most recent work session and congratulated Allendale on the improved safety techniques and safety record that led to the award. Mayor Barra expressed satisfaction regarding the reduced rate of accidents and injuries that led to the presentation and the check that came with the award. Allendale had zero lost days or employee claims due to injury for the first portion of 2011, though previous years were on the high side due to a single incident. The three-year claims list was 2.04 per employee for the same reason. Details offered by Caughlen on behalf of JIF showed that Allendale had improved for the years 2009-2011 despite the setback in 2009-2010. Allendale’s three-year rate so far for lost time due to accident frequency of 1.29 was lower than most towns in Bergen County listed, though in Northwest Bergen County Wyckoff (0.57), Midland Park (0.83), Franklin Lakes (1.05), and Mahwah (1.10) were lower than Allendale and Glen Rock was only marginally higher at 1.31. Upper Saddle River had a rate of 2.22, Saddle River of 2.29, and Ramsey had a rate of 2.61.
