Following last year’s success in garnering outside moneys for energy upgrades, Waldwick has applied again for funds from the New Jersey Clean Energy Program and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) rebate program. If the grants are approved, Fire Company No. 2 off Wyckoff Avenue would get a new boiler to replace the existing 40-year-old equipment. Outdoor lighting would be upgraded with the installation of MH PS 250-watt fixtures. The work is estimated to cost $26,540. The public library would receive boiler and lighting upgrades, including a new hot water system for the building’s original section, at a cost of $21,922. At the DPW garage, the original pull-down heating units would be replaced with modern HVAC units, and a programmable thermostat would be installed, at an estimated cost of $91,494. In total, the town expects to spend $139,956 in improvements for 2011, with $83,974 to come from the state pro-

gram and $50,000 from the block grant. The borough’s share would be $6,000. “If we get the funds it will be great for the community, especially since the out-of-pocket is so minimal for getting all of those upgrades, ” said Assistant Administrator Jordan Battisti, who is handling the application process. Last year, the borough received funds to upgrade heating ventilating and air conditioning systems and install energy efficient lighting at the Ambulance Corps building, the Health Department and Fire Company No. 2. The nurse’s office and the ambulance building received electric split HVAC systems and gas fired furnaces. All three building got lighting upgrades, including LED lights for the exit signs. Made available to municipalities by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to lower the cost of installing energy conservation measures, the program is administered by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU). Battisti said she hopes to hear about the application within the month.
