Democrat critiques services provided to residents
by John Koster Glen Rock Council candidate Howard Fox has criticized the borough’s waste pickup services and electronic outreach to residents in a press release that was based on a survey he commissioned. Fox said the survey showed Glen Rock lacks a number of services that are available to residents in many other Bergen County municipalities. “It’s time for a ‘reboot’ of local government,” said Fox. “It is unacceptable that a great municipality like Glen Rock is being allowed to fall into the second tier in Bergen County in regard to services and technology.”
Based on the survey, Fox issued a scorecard that lists a number of services other communities make available to residents through the use of home computers. The scorecard reports that at least 40 of Bergen County’s 70 municipalities offer regular brush and branch pickup, but Glen Rock does not. “Brush pickup is a basic municipal service,” Fox said. “Not providing it causes a driving hazard when residents have to drive throughout the borough, car trunks open and branches sticking out, to the recycling center.” Glen Rock did offer emergency branch pickup in the wake of Hurricane Irene.
