Ridgewood Notes
Pastor to discuss human origins A major national debate among U.S. conservatives about whether Adam and Eve were literally humanity’s first parents will be the topic of a talk by Pastor Harvey Stob at Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, 271 Lincoln Avenue on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. This discussion will be the first of a four-week series, “Adam and Eve and All That.” Ostling, former religion writer with Time magazine and the Associated Press, will moderate a question-and-answer session during the hour-long program on Sept. 25. He will address related biblical issues on human origins and interpretation of the Book of Genesis on Oct. 2, 9, and 16. Among figures promoting such rethinking is prominent scientist Francis Collins, a devout evangelical convert who led the team that mapped humanity’s complex genetic makeup and currently heads the federal National Institutes of Health. Stob, who was the RCRC pastor from 1989-96, has returned as interim pastor. He delivered the Adam and Eve material earlier this year at the Ann Arbor Christian Reformed Church, adjacent to the University of Michigan’s North Campus.
