Wolfgang Eberhart Beiersdorf of Ridgewood, formerly of Hamburg, Germany, died Sept. 6. He was 75. He was a chemical engineer with M.W. Kellogg in Houston, Texas. He was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers. He is survived by his children Oliver of Ridgewood, Bettina Beiersdorf, and Dirk Beiersdorf of Hamburg, Germany, and four grandchildren. William Dykstra of Ridgewood, formerly of North Haledon, died Sept. 1. He was 86. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Before retiring in 1997, he was a civil engineer with Pike Construction in Paterson for 30 years. He was a member of the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff where he served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife Helena (nee Uelen), his children Helena Veurink of Spring Lake, Michigan, William Jr. of Cherry Hill, Linda VerHill of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, and Robert of North Haledon, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Kay of Fair Lawn, formerly of Glen Rock, died Aug. 25. She was 90. She is predeceased by her husband Donald Kay and daughter Catherine Kay. She is survived by her son Donald A. Marilyn Meyers, nee Van Hook, of Mahwah, formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 4. A graduate of Calvin College with degrees in math and Latin, she worked for 15 years as an assistant for Skyline Greenhouse in Ramsey. She was a piano teacher. She was a member of Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church where she served as elder and deacon and ran the Baby Bank. She is survived by her children Sally Stegink of Michigan, Virginia Vander Plaat of Hawthorne, David Meyers of Georgia, and Pamela Weber of Wantage, 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her siblings Marguerite Van Hook and Jay Van Hook. She worked for many years for the Village of Ridgewood before retiring. Along with her husband, she was involved in the founding of two Russian Orthodox churches in the area. She is survived by her daughters June Kelly of Grafton, New Hampshire and Nina Barnicle of Meriden, New Hampshire, four grandchildren, and her sisters Mildred Adamchak of Lyndhurst and Christine Burak of Roselle. She was predeceased by her husband Metro (Dimitri) Palubniak, her son Michael, and her siblings Johanna Sysak, Helen Huss, Martha Lewens, Mary Zolar, and Peter Petrish. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Inc. in Fair Lawn. Janice Read, nee Tricker, of Wyckoff, formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 2. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and The American Institute of Banking in New York City. She was a member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church, a former member of the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood for over 50 years, a member of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Kurth Cottage for 41 years. She is survived by her daughters Linda McGuckin of Suffern, New York, Joan Mudronja of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Susan Anton of Mahwah, two grandchildren. She is also survived by four stepchildren: Donald Read of California, Patricia Russell of Texas, Richard Read of Maine, and Sarah Gonzales of Colorado. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Donald B. Read, and her sisters Esther Cornell and Ruth Schmidlin. Arrangements were made by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Dr. Richard W. Roukema of Pompton Plains, formerly of Ridgewood, died Aug. 28. He was 83. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and his medical degree in psychiatry from New York Medical School. He received his residency training at the Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Rockland State Hospital. He practiced psychiatry in Ridgewood, and was a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. He was a clinical director of mental health and medical staff president at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. He was published in numerous journals and received many awards, including “Psychiatrist of the Year” from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the “Top Docs” award from New Jersey Monthly magazine. He was a member of the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club. He was an author of six books, “Walking All over God’s Heaven,” “Spouse of the House,” “What Every Patient, Family, Friend, and Caregiver Needs to Know About Psychiatry,” “Counseling for the Soul in Distress,” “What Every Religious Counselor Should Know about Emotional and Mental Illness,” and “Shepherding the Shepherd: Negotiating the Stress of Ministry.” He is survived by his wife, former U.S. Congresswoman Marge (Scafati) Roukema, his children Greg of Franklin Lakes and Meg Kuhn of Eagle, Indiana, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Todd Roukema. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Thomas “Coach” Simos of Hawthorne, formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 7. He was 86. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a 1943 graduate of Ridgewood High School and a 1951 graduate of Springfield College, from which he also received his master’s degree in 1953. Prior to his retirement, he was a physical education teacher and soccer coach for the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. He was a member of the Bergen County Soccer Officials Association, the Bergen County Soccer Hall of Fame, the Bergen County Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Ridgewood High School Hall of Fame in 2004. He is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Smith), and his children Anita Sands, Janet Di Leo, Barbara Marshall, and Wayne Simos. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his siblings James, Helen, Patricia, Christine, and Pauline, all of California. Arrangements were made by C. C.
