Tree request deadline near The Shade Tree Advisory Committee, working with the Glen Rock Department of Public Works, reminds residents the deadline for requesting a free tree planting in the right-of-way along the streets in front of their homes for 2011 is Friday, Sept. 16. Top priority will be for trees on sides of streets without electrical wires. Second priority will go to locations on sides of the street where electrical lines are located, but where trees can be planted farther away from the street and not directly under the lines. If there are still trees available after the above two categories are filled, locating trees on the house side of sidewalks away from the wires on private property will be considered. In this case, the borough will be responsible for the tree for the first year, after which the care for the tree will become the responsibility of the resident. STAC is recommending six different tree species: American elm, pin oak, October glory maple, village green zelkova, greenspire linden, thornless honeylocust, and sweet gum. Forms are available at the department of public works and at borough hall. For more information, call the DPW at (201) 6703980 or e-mail GlenRockTreeTrust@gmail.
com for an electronic version of the request form.
