The program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Old Paramus Reformed Church, 600 East Glen Avenue. At the meeting, monetary donations will be accepted toward gift certificates for the Center for Food Action’s Thanksgiving baskets. On Nov. 17, Let’s Go to the Movies will offer a private screening at Cinema 12 in Parsippany. Afterwards, the group will stop at Niro’s Grille in Livingston for lunch. All village residents, age 55 or older, are invited to join HILT, which is offered through the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Monthly meetings include entertainment and/or informational presentations. The group participates in spring and fall socials, trips to Atlantic City and playhouse dinner theaters, and an Oktoberfest. A $15 membership fee is charged annually. Halloween Masquerade Ball set All are invited to enjoy an evening of ballroom dancing and refreshments at the annual Ridgewood YMCA Halloween Masquerade Ball on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ridgewood YMCA, at 112 Oak Street. Individuals and couples are welcome at the event, which will begin with a free, half-hour ballroom dance lesson with Dance Master Lestat. The evening will continue with dancing and refreshments from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Prizes will also be awarded for the best costume, although wearing of costumes is optional. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple and include a 20 percent discount coupon for dinner, which is valid Oct. 30 at The Office and Smith Brothers restaurants and Oct. 31 through Nov. 3 at Marcello’s and The Stable restaurants. Blood Drive announced The Ridgewood Community Blood Drive will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church at 6 South Monroe Street. Held in cooperation with Community Blood Services, the drive will help ensure the transfusion needs of area patients are met. To schedule an appointment, call (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. November break Art Camp offered Students in kindergarten through third grade are invited to make a special project by reducing, reusing, recycling, and re-creating at the November Break Art Camp sponsored by Ridgewood Recreation. Movie Day features ‘Winnie the Pooh’ The Cooperative Nursery School of Ridgewood will host a Movie Day at Clearview Warner Theater at 190 East Ridgewood Avenue on Nov. 10. The featured movie, “Winnie the Pooh,” will begin at 10 a.m. The cost is $8. Children under two years old will be admitted free. The price includes unlimited popcorn and drinks. Williams to discuss education reform The Social Responsibilities Council of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood and the Bergen County Branch of the People’s Organization for Progress will host “Education Reform: Who Wins, Who Loses?” on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. This is the second in a year-long series on education justice held at the society, 113 Cottage Place. Junius Williams, Esq., attorney, educator, musician, and advocate for public education for more than 40 years, will be the guest speaker. He is director of Rutgers University’s Abbott Leadership Institute and a former chair of the Education Law Center. Among the topics Williams will invite the audience to consider are questions such as “Why are so many charter schools opening in Newark, and so many public schools being closed?” “Are children being hurt or helped by the proposed reforms in both urban and suburban districts?” “Are these reforms carrying forward the goal of the Abbott legislation to ensure a thorough and efficient education for all children in our state?” “Are these reforms likely to be successful in closing the proficiency gap that occurs between children in poor and rich districts?” The seminar is free and open to all. Church offers Holistic Health Expo West Side Presbyterian Church will present a Holistic Health Expo on Oct. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church located at Varian Fry Way, 6 Monroe Avenue, in Ridgewood. Certified practitioners will demonstrate the many ways to care for the whole person. The expo is free to the public and no previous experience is needed.
