Senior programs will be held at the Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church at 271 Lincoln Avenue, beginning in November. On Tuesdays, Silver Strength & Motion will meet at 10 a.m. and Mindful Meditation will convent at 11 a.m. On Wednesdays, For Men Only, the men’s fitness class, will meet at 9:15 a.m., the Art of Chinese Brush Painting will meet at 9:30 a.m., Jazzercise will be held at 10:30 a.m., and chair yoga for seniors will be held at 11:30 a.m. On Fridays, Zumba will meet at 9:30 a.m., and Silver Strength & Motion will be held at 10:30 a.m. Each class is $20 for six sessions for Ridgewood residents 55 and older. Registration may be open to others if space is available; additional fees will apply. Participants are encouraged to notify the recreation department if special accommodations are needed for any program. Seniors are reminded the senior bus runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Explore Science: Chemistry for Kids is available to children in kindergarten through grade three on Mondays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 7. Students will make “slime,” bouncy balls, volcanoes, and more. The fee is $90 for six classes and includes all materials. Children in kindergarten through grade two are offered Pottery with Abrakadoodle on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 3. In this beginner sculpture class, artists will be introduced to a variety of ways to create three dimensional art with kid-friendly modeling compounds. The $110 fee includes six classes and all materials. Acrylic painting is for students in grades two through five. Class will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 8. The cost for the six classes is $54; materials are additional and a list will be provided at registration. Drawing will be offered to children in grades two through five on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 16. Students will work at their own level using drawing pencils and pastels. The fee is $45 for five classes; materials are additional and a list will be provided at registration. Students in grades four through eight may learn charcoal drawing and pastel painting on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 7. Students will learn drawing and composition basics. The fee for six classes is $60; materials are additional and a list will be provided at registration. A calligraphy workshop for students in grade three and up will be held on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 8. Students will create invitations, greeting cards, and more. The cost is $70 for six classes; materials are additional (new students only) and may be obtained for an additional $20 at the first class. Nature in the Village with New Jersey Audubon will be offered to children in kindergarten through grade two on Wednes- days from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 16. Students will enjoy nature discussions, crafts, and nature walks. The cost is $80 for five classes and includes all materials. The Aviation Club with Hobby Quest will meet on Fridays, from 3:45 to 4:45 beginning Nov. 4. The club is open to children in kindergarten through grade five. Participants will learn how to read and evaluate construction plans and use hobby tools as they create and operate a variety (continued on page 15) Teresa Walters, hailed as “The International First Lady of Piano,” will present an all-Liszt performance at the West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Street in Ridgewood, on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. Honoring the 200th Anniversary of the birth of the Hungarian composer, this concert is part of the centennial celebration at West Side. Walters is the first American pianist invited by Hungary to present the Anniversary Concert in honor of Liszt’s birthday. This 100th Anniversary of West Side Presbyterian Church marks the 36th season Pianist presents all-Liszt concert of the West Side Concert Series. Through the generosity of the series’ benefactors, there is a no admission fee policy. Child care is available for preschool children.
