Commission offers Green Film Festival The Glen Rock Environmental Commission will show a series of award-winning documentaries to help residents understand the health and environmental impacts of the water, food, and plastic products in their everyday lives. Films will be shown at 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 27 and Nov. 10 at the Glen Rock Public Library located at 315 Rock Road. “Tapped,” which will be shown on Oct 13, is a revelatory film that uncovers the unregulated and unseen world of an industry that has privatized and sells back the one resource that never should become a commodity: water. “Gasland” will be shown on Oct. 27. This film details the largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history which is sweeping across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of “fracking,” or hydraulic fracturing, has unlocked a “Saudia Arabia of natural gas” just beneath us – but is fracking safe? This film provides information that ExxonMobile and other natural gas companies don’t want the public to hear. On Nov. 10, the featured film will be “Bag it: Is Your Life Too Plastic?” The film has been garnering awards at film festivals across the nation. What started as a documentary about plastic bags evolved into a wholesale investigation into plastics and their effect on waterways, oceans, and people. A discussion will follow each film screening. Information about the films is available on the Glen Rock LinkedIn Group site and Green up Glen Rock Facebook page. The Glen Rock Environmental Commission consists of seven volunteer residents who seek to educate residents, advocate for a cleaner and healthier community, and advise the municipal government about the environmental impacts of proposed actions.
