Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • October 5, 2011 Glen Rock Roundup Women’s Guild hosts Beefsteak Dinner The Women’s Guild of Community Church of Glen Rock will host its annual Beefsteak Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, 354 Rock Road. Tickets for this all-you-can-eat meal are $25 for adults and children age 13 years and up; $10 for children age five to 13 years old. Children under five will be admitted free. Chicken will be available for guests who request it in advance when purchasing a ticket or making a reservation. Proceeds will be used for church outreach, youth programs, and service projects. Temple hosts Jazz Night The Set3 Jazz trio will perform jazz classics on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 8:30 p.m. at the Glen Rock Jewish Center. In addition to the standards, Set3 performs Brazilian, classical, pop, funk, and Latin music. The combo, which features sax, flute, upright bass, and guitar, has performed in the finest jazz clubs in New York City and around the world. The social hall at the center will be transformed into a jazz club setting for this special evening. Dessert will be served. Attendees are invited to bring their own spirits and kosher wine. The cost is $15 per person in advance and includes dessert. Admission will be $20 on the day of the show. The grand prize is $15,000, or 37.5 percent of ticket sales. There will also be 10 additional prizes of $500 each or 1.25 percent of ticket sales each. The Grad Ball, now in its 54th year, provides a safe, alcohol-free, celebratory event on high school graduation night. The event, which is staged in the high school gymnasium, is catered and includes entertainment. Proceeds from the cash prize fundraiser will benefit the Grad Ball. Holiday help offered to the recently bereaved The Stepping Stone group at Saint Catharine’s Church, 905 South Maple Avenue in Glen Rock, will offer “Getting through the Holidays” on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Hope Room at the church. Seniors plan Octoberfest outing The Glen Rock Senior Citizens will travel to the Platzl Brauhause in Pomona, New York for Oktoberfest on Oct. 19. Tom Chapin performs concert Glen Rock Live will bring three-time Grammy Award winner Tom Chapin to the Glen Rock Jewish Center on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8:30 p.m. Chapin will be joined on stage by musicians Jon Cobert and Michael Mark. The New York Times calls Chapin “one of the great personalities in contemporary folk music.” His career spans Broadway, TV, documentary and feature films, the concert stage, and 22 recordings. Chapin will accompany himself on guitar, banjo, and autoharp. Advance tickets are $25 for general admission. Tickets will be $30 at the door. Fornatale presents ‘Story of Woodstock’ Legendary WNEW/ WFUV disc jockey Pete Fornatale will present the “Story of Woodstock” on Jan. 29. This vivid multimedia presentation includes rare audio clips and video footage of the artists who played there. This program will take place at 3 p.m. at the Glen Rock Jewish Center, 682 Harristown Road in Glen Rock. Fornatale, one of the architects of Progressive Rock FM in the ‘60s, has one of the most recognizable voices in rock radio. He has been a fixture on the New York dial for four decades, starting his career at WFUV in November 1963 as a Fordham undergraduate hosting “Campus Caravan,” and then moving to WNEW-FM in 1969 and K-Rock in 1989. Social Security office reduces hours The Social Security office located at 201 Rock Road in Glen Rock will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., a reduction of 30 minutes each weekday. While agency employees will continue to work their regular hours, this shorter public window will allow them to complete face-to-face service with the visiting public without incurring the cost of overtime. Most Social Security services do not require a visit to an office. Those who wish to apply for benefits, sign up for direct deposit, replace a Medicare card, obtain a proof of income letter, or give notice of a change of address or telephone number may do so at www.socialsecurity.gov or by calling the toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213. The hearing impaired may call the TTY number, 1-800-325-0778. Exhibitors sought The Glen Rock Library is looking for interesting, antique, artistic, whimsical, beautiful, and/or unique collections.
