Church presents ‘Once upon a Mattress’ Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, under the direction of Five Corners Theatre Company, will present a benefit production of “Once upon a Mattress” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.4. The performances will be held at Glen Rock Community Church at 354 Rock Road. Anyone who thought they knew the story of “The Princess and the Pea” may be in for a walloping surprise. Attendees will discover that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab and that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night. Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic provides some sidesplitting shenanigans. Tickets, which are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students up to age 18, may be purchased at the church on Sundays from noon to 1 p.m. or by calling (201) 444-6598. Tickets may be reserved at fivecornerstheatre@yahoo.com. Based on available seating, tickets may be sold at the door. All proceeds will benefit the church. Seniors plan Holiday Lunch The Glen Rock Seniors will host a Holiday Lunch on Dec. 7 at La Neve’s in Haledon. Along with lunch, the afternoon will include dancing, and a sing-along with entertainment by Joe Zisa and friends. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 10:15 a.m. The cost is $39 for members and $43 for non-members. For reservations or information, call (201) 445-0238. ECF will receive a percentage of the artworks sold. Our Second Annual Hollywood Bash will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4. Please call if you would like to get involved. We are also looking for donations for our auction and for ad placements. If you have a few hours a week to spare, consider becoming a volunteer, or just stop by and meet with us, take a look at our pantry, and see what ECF is all about. Call us at (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at the center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited. We are looking for a Friday volunteer from 1 to 4 p.m. We are also looking for a few food drivers who are willing to go to Bergen and Essex counties. Our new family in Secaucus needs a driver. A background check with an $18 fee is required. The Northern Regional Center is located at 174 Paterson Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Visit us on the web at www.emmanuelcancer.org. As always, thank you for helping the children and their families! Emmanuel asks... (continued from page 10) checks or gift cards to be used by our families. Your efforts help us to help our families in many ways, including sending a caseworker to visit the families at home or in the hospital. This support for the kids, their siblings, and parents is crucial. Kids are welcome to help, too. Many have held sales or lemonade stands and contributed the proceeds to ECF. If your Boy Scout or Girl Scout Troop needs to earn badges, visit us in Midland Park. Scouts can get creative and have fun helping our families as they learn about philanthropy. ECF representatives are available to discuss our programs at your next fundraiser or event. Just give us a call for more information. We enjoyed the Ridgewood Art Institute Holiday Art Show on Nov. 20. The show will continue until Dec. 18 and
