The Ridgewood High School Latin academic teams recently traveled to Yale University to compete with classics students from across the country. After a day of grueling matches, one Ridgewood team advanced to the semi-finals with Massachusetts and Florida (the reigning champions in the U.S. after their victory in Kentucky this summer). The final score was Oak Hill, Florida, 100; Ridgewood, 95; and Mount Greylock, Massachusetts, 35. The full team roster is Akari Armatas, Benjamin Bechtold, Christopher Criscitiello, Zoe Blecher-Cohen, Michael Coniglio, Francesca Felder, Megan Felder, Alison Graham, Elizabeth Mattson, Sophie Montgomery, Divya Persaud, Britta Potter, Emily Riemer, Vidushi Sharma, Emma Szymanski. The academic coach is Catherine Venturini. On Dec. 10 and 17, Santa will be at his house in the park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The trolley will be traveling through the business district. Visit Santa in the park with any last minute requests from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 24. Event organizers expect many families to view the traditional tree lighting ceremony this year. Last year, approximately 3,000 people visited Ridgewood for the festivities. Local businesses are invited to open their doors, welcome the community, and give out coupons to encourage them to return the next day.
