Glen Rock
The Glen Rock Garden Club has donated $10,000 from the estate of the late Frank Taylor to help construct the proposed new educational building at the Glen Rock Arboretum on Doremus Avenue. The check was transferred from Glen Rock Garden Club President Beth Helfst and Treasurer Barbara Selliti to Carol Thielke, manager of the Glen Rock Arboretum, and Tom Vielbig, president of the Friends of the Glen Rock Arbo-

retum. The building fund is targeted at $500,000. Plans call for the use of private funds to construct an educational center so the arboretum can host programs to teach students and adults about ecology and the natural world. Frank Taylor and his wife Helen, beloved long-term residents of Glen Rock, were active in both the Garden Club and the Arboretum before they passed away. The bulk of their estate was left to promote nature and gardening activities in Glen Rock. The arboretum, which centers on a pond fed by Diamond Brook, is honeycombed with short hiking trails and con-
sists of planted gardens, natural North Jersey woodlands, and a collection of living trees and shrubs from temperate zones of Europe, Asia, and North America. Members of the Garden Club often volunteer to maintain the arboretum, working with local Scouts and the Master Gardeners. J. KOSTER
