During the 1950s he worked for the Paterson News. He later became district manager for the Bergen Record in the 1960s and early 1970s, while obtaining his associate degree. He was district manager for the Herald News until his retirement in the late 1970s. He was an assistant golf professional at the North Jersey Country Club in Wayne, and was named an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Paterson Great Falls. He is survived by his daughters Michele Gordon Leishman and Lisa Gordon Lota, both of Midland Park, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Ronald Anthony Gordon. Suzanne Russ Handley of Mahwah, formerly of Ridgewood, died Nov. 5. She was 82. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Douglass College and was active in alumni affairs. She was a member of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood and founder of Citizens for Swimming. She was a volunteer at CAMP, an after-school learning program in Paterson. She was a Master Gardener. She is survived by her children Anthony, Kathleen, and Nicholas, and granddaughter Samantha. She was predeceased by her husband John M. Handley, her sons Russell and Kurt, and granddaughter Brandie. She received her bachelor’s degree at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, and received her master’s degree at Saint John’s University in Queens, New York. She taught in Babylon, New York. After raising her children, she was a substitute teacher for the Mahwah Public Schools. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. She is survived by her husband Walter P. Hollinger, her children Ellen Langford of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Dr. Walter A. Hollinger of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, Catherine Hollinger of Pottersville, John C. Hollinger of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Marie Short of West Orange, eight grandchildren, and her siblings Fred W. Kaelin Jr. and Barbara O’Neill. She was predeceased by her daughter Susan. Michael J. Gordon Maria A. Hymen of Midland Park died Nov. 3. She was 84. She had served as Midland Park’s administrative clerk, deputy registrar, library assistant, and crossing guard. The Borough of Midland Park declared Sept. 1, 1989 “Maria A. Hymen Day” in honor of her long service to the town. She was a member of Midland Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons Martin W. Jr. of Rockaway Township and Christian L. of Wilson, North Carolina, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her sister Frances Gunderman of Newton, and her brother-in-law Elmer Hymen of Midland Park. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He joined the Allendale Police Department in 1947, rose through the ranks, and served as chief of police for 25 years before retiring in 1989. He was past president of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, and served as a member of the Allendale Council. He is survived by his children Roger Parenti of Sarasota, Florida and Jill Parenti of Allendale, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley. Schwaner, nee Shields, of Wyckoff, formerly Maria A. Hymen of Fair Lawn, died Nov. 9. She was 81. She attended Felician College in Lodi. She was a member of the Grace Bible Church in North Haledon and a former member of the Second Reformed Church in Wyckoff. She was a volunteer piano player at the Christian Health Care Center for 30 years. She is survived by her husband Frederick E. Schwaner Jr., her sons Frederick E. Schwaner III of West Milford and David Schwaner of Okemos, Michigan, and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Martin Shields. McCullough served a full elected term as a Democrat on the Glen Rock Borough Council, but was not re-elected in two subsequent bids. McCullough has served for a number of years as an appointed member of the Glen Rock Planning Board, where he continues to serve, and is active in local recreation and taxpayer and senior activities. Councilwoman Biggs is a retired executive from IBM, where she logged 31 years of experience. She is now the chief operating office of a small manufacturing business. A Glen Rock resident for more than 30 years, she was named a Bergen County Volunteer of the Year in 2006, and was a co-founder of the Glen Rock Relay for Life, serving as chair for seven years. A graduate of Georgetown with a degree in languages and linguistics, she previously graduated from Glen Rock High School. She is active in Saint Catharine’s Church and in activities related to disabilities and cancer research and remediation. She and her late husband, Tim, raised their two children in Glen Rock. Pazan, a two-term incumbent, holds a degree from Hofstra University and a master’s degree from NYU. He had worked in the food industry and with international food companies for more than 20 years and is fluent in Spanish. Pazan moved to Glen Rock from Teaneck in 1990 and his four children attended the Glen Rock schools. He has been active in the Glen Rock Baseball Association, where he worked with the Glen Rock Board of Education on safety improvements. Pazan is an active member of the Glen Rock Jewish Center who volunteers and cooks Sabbath meals for the congregation. He is an accomplished musician, and performs at GRJC services. Fox is the associate director of management information systems and has been a software developer with a leading Internet credit-based firm and an analyst in a leading travel company. He holds a degree in business administration from the University of Albany with a minor in political science, and an MBA in finance from Baruch College of CCNY.
