An opening reception with wine and cheese will be held in a festive holiday setting from 1 to 4 p.m. at the institute, 12 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood. The gallery, located in the 100-year-old restored barn, will be lined with institute members’ landscapes, seascapes, florals, still lifes, and portraits, in a variety of media. The Ridgewood Art Institute, a non-profit arts organization made up of professional and amateur artists, has been in existence since 1935. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the third of a four-part series of workshops on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. This workshop topic is “Getting Your Message Out: Networking.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Learn about Polish heritage The Genealogy Society of Bergen County will present a film, “Sharing Stories: Polish Life in Our Valley,” on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. This video features life in the Polish immigrant community in the Connecticut River Valley. It aims to broaden the common view of the Polish experience, and inspire others to learn about their own cultural heritage. The importance of the Catholic Church will also be examined. Polish heritage in the arts, from folk art of egg decorating, costume design, and music will be explored. Meetings of the GSBC are free and open to the public. RBARI hosts Holiday Boutique The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. will hold its Annual Holiday Boutique at the Franklin Lakes VFW Hall at the corner of Franklin and Pulis avenues in Franklin Lakes on Friday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature seasonal home decorations, handmade crafts, and gifts for people and pets.
