Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES II & IV • November 9, 2011 Midland Park High School graduates Kaleb John Zuidema and Melanie “Mel” Lewis will be honored on Nov. 22 at the YMCA of Greater Bergen County’s banquet to be held at the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel. The hotel is located at 1 International Boulevard, Route 17 North in Mahwah. Zuidema will receive the J. Barry Stanford Award. This special achievement award is given to recent high school graduate who has received significant recognition in sports. Zuidema, now a freshman at the University of South Carolina, earned fame as a record-breaking javelin thrower at Midland Park High School. Lewis will be honored as a female High School Student Athlete. InSoo Hwang of Ridgewood is the winner of the male High School Student Athlete Award. The High School Student Athlete Award is conferred upon male and female students who have received some type of All-County Recognition (from first team to honorable mention) in two sports and have satisfactory academic achievement, either the top half of the class or a B average. This award is based on YMCA recognizes Kaleb Zuidema, Mel Lewis performance from September through June. The student athletes being honored have succeeded in athletics and in the classroom, and give to their communities and special charities. The adult honorees are involved in athletics and recreation and have exhibited exceptional leadership and guidance to young people. Janet Molino of Ramsey will receive the William Corcoran Service Award to Youth for her contribution to high school athletics. Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to attend the dinner. Tickets are $95. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner and award presentation at 7 p.m. Corporate sponsorships, tables, and advertising space in the souvenir journal are available. The Midland Park High School community will sponsor its Second Annual Neuroblastoma Research Benefit Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 15 in honor of three-yearold Andrew Goodell. The event will be held at the Brownstone in Paterson from 7 to 11 p.m. Andrew is the son of Midland Park High School teacher Jacqueline Goodell and her husband Aaron Goodell. The Goodells, along with younger son Alex, reside in Hawthorne. Last year’s dinner was a benefit for the Goodell family as they put their lives and careers on hold in order to take care of Andrew. At this time, Andrew is N.E.D. (no evidence of disease); unfortunately, however, there is also a 50 percent chance that Andrew’s cancer will return. Benefit dinner will honor Goodell There are still thousands of other children stricken by this devastating disease. This year’s dinner will directly benefit children in the care of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The parent organization “Band of Parents” provides ongoing financial support to Sloan for research for a cure. The event will feature dinner, dancing with music provided by a DJ, and a prize basket fundraiser.
