Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • May 25, 2011 Villadom Happenings Lions ready for carnival The Saddle River Valley Lions Club will hold its Annual Carnival Monday, May 30 through Saturday, June 4 at Lions Park, 248 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Children and adults from all towns are invited to participate in the fun, rides, games, and enjoy the carnival food. This year, the winner of the 2011 Ford Mustang will be announced at the carnival on June 4 at 10 p.m. The club includes residents from Mahwah, Ramsey, Allendale, Upper Saddle River, and Saddle River. Football kickoff/reunion set The Ramapo Football Booster Association will hold the Ramapo Football Kickoff/Reunion Beefsteak Fundraiser on Friday, June 3 from 7 to 11 p.m. at La Neve’s Restaurant, 267 Belmont Avenue in Haledon. The 2011 Ramapo Football Family, together with the 2001 State Championship Team will celebrate the football program and anticipate the upcoming season. Tickets are $40 per person; families and alumni are welcome. Tickets must be purchased by May 26. Fly Fishers offer clinic The Joan Wulff Fly Fishers will offer a free fly casting clinic on Thursday, June 2 at Graydon Pool, located at Maple and Linwood avenues in Ridgewood. The clinic will begin at 6:30 p.m. and continue until dark. The public is invited, in particular women and girls (age 12 and older). Equipment will be provided, or participants may bring their own gear. The program will be led by Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Instructors. Beginning computer class offered to seniors The Northwest Bergen Senior Center in Midland Park has designed a five-week beginner computer class for seniors with no experience. Learn to use the mouse, understand what is on the screen, scroll, open and close programs, and master the basic skills. Weekly practice with a computer tutor will prepare seniors to advance to the next course, “Navigating the Internet,” which will begin in July. The beginner class will be taught on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. beginning June 7. To register, call (201) 4455990. The center is located at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park. Summer community service for teens available Oasis: A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson has volunteer opportunities for teens this summer. Oasis is looking for volunteers to plan games, activities, and events on Thursdays; and carnival games, arts and crafts projects, sport games, music, painting, and Summer Olympics activities for Carl’s Kids Camp on Mondays and Thursdays, June 27 through Aug. 19. Support group to meet LifeLines, a supportive and informative resource for prostate cancer patients and their partners in Northern Bergen County, will meet Tuesday, May 24 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. The group was formed by prostate cancer patients to share information and experience about available treatment and service resources. ASD Fitness classes available The Ridgewood YMCA, in cooperation with The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation, will offer F.I.T. Together, a fitness independence training program for adolescents and young adults ages 16 to 30 affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. The program will run from July 11 through Aug. 19, with classes on Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the Ridgewood YMCA at 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. F.I.T. is a small group step aerobics exercise class specifically designed to improve participants’ fitness, coordination, socialization, self-confidence, and independence. Each participant is paired with a volunteer peer mentor for support and encouragement. The program is for those with ASD who have sufficient communication and self-help skills to independently participate. The cost of the six-week program is $90. YMCA membership is required for participation. The deadline for registration is July 1. Financial assistance is available for qualified families.
