Police charge man after alleged machete threat
by John Koster The Ridgewood Police Department has charged a 50-year-old man with simple assault and unlawful possession of a weapon after he reportedly threatened an employee with a machete. Ridgewood Patrolman Shane James responded to a May 3 call from Van Emburgh Avenue on reports of a threat, and was told that an employee charged his employer with threatening him with a machete after a dispute. The accused man was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. On May 4, a Manor Road resident reported that, while her home was under construction, someone had entered the addition and removed copper flashing valued at $4,000. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Police Department. Two 18-year-old Ridgewood women were arrested and charged with alcoholrelated offenses on May 7 after neighbors’ complaints brought police to a noisy house party on Hillcrest Road at 11:04 p.m. The patrol responded and found that a number of under-age persons at the Hillcrest Road premises were consuming alcoholic beverages. The person in charge of the house, an 18-year-old woman, was charged with making real property available for consumption of alcohol. Another 18-year-
old Ridgewood woman was charged with possession of a fraudulent document and violation of the Ridgewood ordinance prohibiting under-age consumption of alcohol. Both were released pending a Ridgewood Municipal Court appearance. In an unrelated incident on the same day, the owner of Harding Pharmacy reported that a man had attempted to obtain a fraudulent prescription. Patrolman Anthony Mormino was able to stop the suspect’s vehicle on East Ridgewood Avenue and the accused, a 44-year-old Mahwah man, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance through fraud. He was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. On May 9, at 7:26 p.m., a 24-year-old New Milford man was charged after the victim of a hit-and-run accident followed (continued on page 17)
