Emmanuel asks... Emmanuel asks... Can You Help? Help? Can You
Our hat’s off to the Wyckoff Seniors for their recent Food Drive. Thanks to the Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus for their donation. A big shout out goes to the men and women at the Kentshire in Midland Park for hosting a Spring Tea fundraiser for us. We really enjoyed it. Special thanks go to Girl Scout Troop 1383 of Glen Rock. These fourth grade girls came back to visit us and stock our pantry. They went to all the classrooms at Byrd School with their slogan: “Get into gear and bring your food here.” Leaders Jeanine Hendrickx and Jenna Greene brought Samantha, Bernadette, Lizzie, Samara, Katie, Caroline, Jenna, Lily, and Anneliese. We are planning our fall fundraiser. Please call us if you

would like to get involved. We are looking for volunteers to help us plan. It doesn’t matter if you work full-time or if you are a stay-at-home parent. We just need a few hours of your time. Do you like to plan parties? Do you have experience in marketing or event planning? If you are interested, please call us. The families in the Northern Region have been so fortunate to have had some caring, dedicated caseworkers assigned to them. We are sad to announce that one of those caseworkers, Addie Haler, will be leaving ECF shortly. This staunch advocate for her families will be missed. If you or someone you know would like to apply for this contractual position, please let us know. We require a master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related discipline. Home visits are also required. It is only through the financial support of the community that we can assign caseworkers to our families. Caseworkers visit our families regularly and help them cope in many ways. When you support us with a contribution, you are ensuring the continuation of this critical intervention. Many of our families need new twin, full, or queen sheet sets. With summer coming, we also need a few air conditioners: one that is 8000 BTUs or more, and the other that is 10,000 BTUs. Please contact us before bringing them to our Midland Park office. Thank you.
We currently deliver eight to 10 bags of groceries to 16 families every month. You can help us fill our pantry by picking up some non-perishable items and dropping them off at our outreach center. Our families always appreciate the support. ECF uses financial contributions to support the costs associated with providing free services to any New Jersey child who has cancer. Approximately 70 cents from every dollar goes towards direct care for our families. We rely on our local community to help support our families. Many of them do not have the financial or emotional support to help them get through a major illness like cancer. Please remember: We do not charge anything for our services. We rely on you. If your company has a charitable giving program, please let us know. If you have a few hours a week to spare, consider becoming a volunteer or just stop by and meet with us, take a look at our pantry, and see what ECF is all about. Volunteers are welcome to assist on Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. Call (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at the center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited. The Northern Regional Center is located at 174 Paterson Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Visit us online at www.emmanuelcancer.org. As always, thank you for helping the children and their families!
Come See
Glen Rock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 850, now known as the Tom Egan Post, sponsored its annual Buddy Poppy Sale to benefit veterans. Charlie Ruthberg, pictured above selling poppies near Rock Road, was the first pilot in four-engine B-24 bombers during the last stages of the Italian campaign in World War II and flew 12 combat missions. He recently retired from the ‘UFO Group’ -- United Flying Octagenarians -- after many more years at the throttle. Glen Rock VFW and American Legion Post 145 members regularly take part in Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies to remember their buddies and to raise funds for veterans in need.
