Glen Rock May 18, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Board names new principal of Glen Rock High School The Glen Rock Board of Education has named John Arlotta as principal of Glen Rock High School. The board announced the appointment last week. He will replace James McCarthy, who has served in that capacity since August of 2001. Arlotta is currently the assistant principal for Academic Affairs at Cranford High School. He will assume his administrative responsibilities in early July. According to Superintendent David C. Verducci, Ph.D., “When Jim (McCarthy) announced his retirement in February, we began the process of searching for a new leader for our high school. We initially received 53 complete applications, and with the assistance of Kathy Regan (director of curriculum and instruction) we narrowed the field to 12 candidates, 10 of whom were interviewed by the Screening Committee. John Arlotta quickly rose to the top. His experiences in Cranford, particularly with the university high school concept and his work in the area of dual enrolment, as well as his focus on articulation and professional development, will dovetail nicely with the direction we have set for Glen Rock High School.” Verducci said. “I know he will make significant contributions to my administrative team.” Rona McNabola, Glen Rock Board of Education president, was equally enthusiastic about the decision to hire Arlotta. “In a community like Glen Rock, the high school principal has many hats to wear: educator, colleague, counselor, honorary community member, and staunch supporter of ‘Panther Country.’ Given John’s exceptional career at the high school level, and his own experiences as a musician, poet, and coach, we see that he has a strong appreciation for developing the whole student, something we place a high value on in this district. We look forward to working with him.” Arlotta, a resident of Montville, is looking forward to his new position. “I am extremely excited and honored to be the next principal of Glen Rock High School.
