Ridgewood May 11, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 Motorists face charges Two Ridgewood motorists were charged in separate instances that involved striking and injuring pedestrians while a third pedestrian was deliberately hit with a nonalcoholic drink thrown from a moving car. On April 29 at 9:41 p.m. police reported that the vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Ridgewood resident struck a 14-year-old pedestrian, also a Ridgewood resident, as the youngster was at the intersection of Godwin Avenue and Pomander Walk. The motorist had been traveling east on Godwin Avenue at the time the pedestrian was struck. The teenager was transported to Valley Hospital by the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps and treated for what police said were minor injuries. The motorist was issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian. In an unrelated incident that day, the Ridgewood Police Department responded to a report of a person on a bicycle having been struck by an automobile at the corner of South Maple Avenue and Walton Street at 5:05 p.m. The vehicle was reportedly traveling north on Maple Avenue and turned left onto Walton Street, striking the bicyclist who had been traveling on Maple Avenue. The bicyclist was transported to Valley Hospital for examination of a possible head injury by the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving. In a third incident on April 29, a Hillcrest Road resident reported that she was walking along the road and a female in a dark-colored vehicle screamed something at her and hurled a beverage in a container, which struck her in the head. The police are investigating the incident, which took place around 6:10 p.m. An 18-year-old Ridgewood man was arrested on May 1 for underage possession of alcoholic beverages and for littering. Ridgewood Patrolman Colin Donnelly reportedly observed a vehicle in the parking lot of the Ridge School and pulled up to inquire why the youngsters in the car were on school property at 11:05 p.m. During the contact with the youngsters, Ridgewood Patrolman Kyle Finch reportedly saw an open case of beer on the back seat. The police officers charged the 18year-old driver with underage possession of alcohol and with littering. The teenager was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. A few days before, on April 28 at 8:37 p.m., Patrolman Michael McDermott conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 17 North in Ridgewood and arrested and charged a 39-year-old Mahwah man with driving under the influence of alcohol. The man faces an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. A Ridgewood resident foiled the theft of an iPhone from his parked car when he triggered an alarm and the thief abandoned the phone in Glen Rock. The Christopher Street resident reported to the Ridgewood Police Department on May 1 that his vehicle had been entered and the iPhone had been taken. The owner was able to activate the tracking device in his phone and responding officers tracked a suspect into Glen Rock. The suspect was not located, but the phone and the bag it was carried in, with other items, had been abandoned and was recovered, along with another phone stolen from a different location on Lenox Avenue. The Ridgewood police are continuing the investigation. J.
