Glen Rock May 11, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Robin Rubenstein wins seat on school board Robin Rubenstein, a 21-year Glen Rock resident and former president of the Glen Rock Federated Home & School Associations, has officially been designated as the third winner of the Glen Rock Board of Education election. The announcement came a week after the ballots were cast. This year’s election featured only two candidates running for three seats because no third candidate filed in time to be on the ballot. Several write-in candidates subsequently ran quiet, organized campaigns for the remaining seat. Rubenstein received 412 write-in votes, edging out write-in candidate Albert Tarleton, who received 346 votes. The total number of write-in voters for school board candidates was 1,330. The newly confirmed write-in victor worked for Mayor Ed Koch’s administration in New York City in an executive position before moving to Glen Rock two decades ago. Rubenstein has also served on the Coleman and Middle School Home & School Associations. Rubenstein’s daughter attended the district’s public schools from kindergarten through high school, and is now in college. Incumbent trustees Randi Blumberg and Rona McNabola each received in excess of 1,000 votes and were confirmed as elected at the closing of the polls on April 27, but the write-in candidate kept poll workers laboring until 2 a.m. without a conclusive result. Ballot write-ins had to be meticulously checked against voting records before the successful write-in candidate could be confirmed on Monday May 2. J.
