I hope the end result, on paper, elicits an emotional response or triggers a memory that inspires viewers to observe, appreciate and seek greater knowledge of all the beauty surrounding them,” Landau said. Landau has developed comfort and skill with transparent watercolor. Her choice of watercolor further illustrates her insight and effectiveness in capturing the intrinsic properties of the moment. The artist grew up in Putnam County, New York. After studying at the Arts Student League, New York School of Interior Design and Carnegie Mellon University, she worked as an award-winning graphic designer and art director. Later, she moved to Central Valley, New York where she and her husband raised three children. The artist currently maintains two studios: one in Hudson Valley, New York and one in Maryland. She is presently represented by Piermont Fine Arts Gallery in Piermont, New York. Fornaci was born in Puerto Rico, and grew up in New Jersey in the shadow of New York City. The wealth of diversity, the colors and architecture of the city, and the gorgeous atmospheric lighting of New England all had a tremendous affect on her artistic development. Married and the mother of two grown sons, she left a career in children’s publishing several years ago to pursue her lifelong passion for art. Studying oil painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute under master artist John Osborne, and in Florence, Italy, with Rosanna Pinero of the Florence Academy of Art, has provided a structural foundation for her continued growth. The artist feels fortunate to be able to work and grow among an incredible community of very talented artists – many of whom have become dear friends and mentors. She travels to paint en plein air as often as possible to better understand the flow of light over varied landscapes and to capture the essence of diverse cultures. The experiences she has had and the people she has met have provided a rich point of view from which to explore her creativity. Fornaci’s work has been acquired by several collectors, and has been published by Scholastic Inc., and Hachette Publishing. “For me, creating art is about putting in the time to learn one’s craft, and then finding a subject that is extraordinary,” Fornaci said. “I use vibrant colors and a saturated palette to best reflect how I feel in painting these subjects. I want to be the catalyst for the viewer’s own imagination.” Fornaci has been most influenced by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Sargent, Sorolla, and the Italians of the Macchiaoli movement. Fornaci’s upcoming exhibitions include the American Art & Crafts Festival at Lincoln Center – June 11 and 12 and June 18 and 19; the Glastonbury Art Show – Sept. 10 and 11, Glastonbury, CT; and solo exhibits at the Ridgewood Library and Glen Rock Library at the end of the year. Julie Fornaci is a member of the Allied Artists of America, Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America, the Ridgewood Art Institute and the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, Newton, NJ.
