Can You Help?
Our hat’s off to: Atlantic Stewardship Bank of Hawthorne for their amazing Easter baskets. Thank you to all the awesome people who generously donated Easter baskets and gift cards for the kids. Special thanks to the Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus for their great food collection. Thanks to the CCD group from Ridgewood -- including John, William, Jackson, Brendan, Matthew, and Matthew -- for visiting us and for helping us stock our pantry. A big shout-out to Willard Girl Scout Troop 1350 for making an incredible dollhouse for four-year old Danielle, whose story you can read below. Please see the pictures on our Facebook page (Emmanuel Cancer Foundation). The girls are: Hailey, Jessica, Joanna, Sara, Georgia, Caroline, Jacqueline, Natalie, and Charlotte. Their troop leaders are Racheal Marussich and Rikke Page. Thanks 4-29-09 karen/janine sweet, four-yearso much! who Danielle is an adorable, old girl EmmanuelHelp2x.75(4-29-09) was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2010. Danielle lives in 3 x .75 Essex County with her mom, Mollie, and little sister Jasmine who just turned three. Danielle’s mom recently separated from the girls’ father, and she is raising her two young children on her own. Since Danielle became sick, Mollie hasn’t been able to return to work. Danielle is currently receiving chemotherapy several times a week and Mollie takes her to each appointment. Chemotherapy has been hard on Danielle, but she has been very brave, and the treatment is working for her. The one thing that has helped Danielle get through her chemotherapy sessions, and brief hospital stays, has been playing with her Nintendo DS. It occupies her and helps her forget about the needles, the pain, and feeling sick. The staff at the hospital gave her some fun new games to play and Danielle is very excited. Unfortunately, Danielle’s little sister accidentally dropped the DS and it broke. Mollie was unable to fix the DS and cannot afford to buy another anytime soon given their limited budget. Danielle would really be thankful for a Nintendo DS, either new or used, to help make chemotherapy a little less difficult. The girls would also benefit from new shoes. Now that the warmer weather is here, Mollie has realized that her daughters’ old shoes are inadequate or no longer fit. The girls need sneakers, sandals, and dress shoes/flats. Danielle wears size 10 shoes, and Jasmine is a size 9 in sneakers and an 8 in sandals and dress shoes/flats. The girls could also use some new sheets/bedding. Each girl has only one set of sheets, and both sets are worn. The family would be happy to accept slightly used or new sheets to fit a twin-sized bed and/or a full-sized bed. Many of our families need new twin, full, or queen sheet sets. With summer coming, we also need a few air conditioners: one that is 8000 BTUs or more, and the other that is 10,000 BTUs. Please contact us before bringing them to our Midland Park office. Thank you. We are planning our fall fundraiser. We are looking for a local art gallery or a similar type place to donate space for a wine and cheese event to be held on a weeknight. We are also looking for volunteers to help us plan. It doesn’t matter if you work full-time or if you retired or a stay-at-home parent. We just need a few hours of your time. Do you like to plan parties? Do you have experience in marketing or event planning? If you are interested, please call us. We also have a need for bilingual caseworkers. Please let us know if you are interested. Mothers Day is almost here. Please consider having a Mother’s Day Tea in our honor. Invite your family and friends and ask each guest to bring a check for ECF. We supply the tea and goodies. We rely on our local community to help support our families. Many of them do not have the financial or emotional support to help them get through a major illness like cancer. Please remember: We do not charge anything for our services. We rely on you. If your company has a charitable giving program, please let us know. If you have a few hours a week to spare, consider becoming a volunteer or just stop by and meet with us, take a look at our pantry, and see what ECF is all about. Volunteers are welcome to assist on Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. Call (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at the center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited. The Northern Regional Center is located at 174 Paterson Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Visit us online at www.emmanuelcancer.org. As always, thank you for helping the children and their families!
