Non-resident pool badges available The Borough of Waldwick will offer non-resident pool badges for the Waldwick Municipal Pool at $150 per person; children three years old or younger will be admitted free of charge. RBARI hosts Golf Outing benefit The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. will host its 2011 Annual Golf Outing in celebration of the life of Dr. Cheryl Welch. This event will be held Monday, May 9 at the High Mountain Golf Club at 845 Ewing Avenue in Franklin Lakes. RBARI is dedicated to making this event successful to continue Dr. Welch’s legacy of caring for the animals at the shelter. Entry fees are $695 per foursome or $180 for a single golfer. The fee includes breakfast, cart, practice balls, a round of golf at this top quality course, contests, a barbecue at the turn, and lunch at the end. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Online registration for golfers and sponsors may be made at www.rbari.org/golf. On May 6 and 7, RBARI will hold a sale of gifts and crafts at the Copper Tree Mall, 350 Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202) in Oakland. Attendees will find a wide range of gifts, some of which are animal-related. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Proceeds directly benefit the animals at RBARI. Young artists sought The Ridgewood Art Institute invites all young artists in Ridgewood and surrounding communities to enter an original work of art in this year’s 52nd Annual Young Peoples Exhibition. Prizes of art class scholarships will be awarded. Students who are seven through 17 may enter artwork in any medium. Receiving will be on Saturday, May 21 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibition will close on June 17. History lecture to feature City of Paterson The Hermitage History Lecture Series will present “Paterson: Baroque Masterpiece to Silk City” on Wednesday, May 11 at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. Nick Sunday will discuss the unique cultural legacy and later industrial and commercial growth of Paterson.
Developed in 1793 by Pierre Charles L’Enfant, the original plan of the city was a baroque masterpiece. Sunday, a Paterson native, has been instrumental in protecting the Jennie Tuttle Hobart collection, which is part of Paterson’s vast holdings of nineteenth century art and artifacts. Tickets to event are $5 and may be obtained by calling (201) 445-8311, extension 36. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the last of a four-part series of workshops on Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. The May 15 workshop topic will be “Interview, Cultivate Offers, and Negotiate.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Children’s Retreat benefit held The Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat Ladies Auxiliary will host a Dinner and Fashion Show fundraiser at the Brownstone in West Paterson on Tuesday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. The event will benefit the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat, a home for individuals with multiple developmental disabilities. Fashions provided by Dress Barn in Wayne will be modeled by the women of the auxiliary. The event will feature many prize baskets.
