The foundation’s mission is to raise the awareness and funds needed to overcome pediatric brain tumors and to help affected children and families. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the first of a four-part series of fall/winter workshops on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. The April 10 workshop topic is “Get Your Message Out: Networking.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Northwest Bergen History Day set The Coalition of Northwest Bergen History Societies will host its first Northwest Bergen County History Day Tour on May 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eight historical homes and museums will be open to tour that day. Visitors will explore the rich 18th and 19th century history of Northwest Bergen County as they stop at the following: The Schoolhouse Museum, 650 East Glen Avenue, Ridgewood; The Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus; The Fell House, 475 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale; The Hopper-Goetschius House Museum, 363 East Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River; The Old Stone House, 538 Island Road, Ramsey; The Mahwah Museum, 201 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah; The Van Allen House, 3 Franklin Avenue, Oakland; and The Zabriskie House, 421 Franklin Avenue, Wyckoff. Tickets for admission to all eight sites are $10 a person; children under 12 will be admitted free. Beginning April 4, tickets may be purchased through the coalition’s historical societies. Tickets will also be on sale at the Schoolhouse Museum in Ridgewood on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sundays 2 to 4 p.m.; at Abma’s Farm Market in Wyckoff, Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn and Tavern in Ho-Ho-Kus. Checks should be made payable to the Ridgewood Historical Society. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be divided among the members of the Coalition of NW Bergen County History Societies. The coalition will be selling grilled hotdogs and soda at the picnic area at the Hopper-Goetschius House Museum in Upper Saddle River on the day of the tour. County holds free shredding event On Saturday, April 2, Bergen County will hold a free shredding event for all county residents. The event will be held at the Waldwick Administration Building, 63 Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick. Bergen County residents are invited to take advantage of this opportunity to safely destroy confidential documents and prevent identity theft. Residents are reminded not to include binders, plastic, metal pieces (paper clips), and X-rays. All shredded materials will be taken to a recycling facility. Gibbons to discuss Yeats and Irish history Professor Seamus Aidan Gibbons of Bergen Community College will present “The Poetry of Yeats: An Overall View of Irish History” to the Irish American Unity Conference 5th and 9th CD Chapter on Wednesday, April 13. The session will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church, 105 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. All are welcome. The IAUC is a human rights organization working for peace with justice in a reunited Ireland.
