Page 14 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 30, 2011 A Glimpse of Glen Rock r. Margaret E. Somers came to the United States from Europe at age 14. Two years later, she began working as dental assistant. Although she professed a desire to become an artist, her employer saw a different path in her future, and continually told Margaret, “No. You are going to be a dentist.” She soon decided to pursue a career in dentistry. Dr. Somers graduated from Bergen Community College’s dental hygiene program 1988, and graduated from UMDMJ in 1996. She purchased her practice in 1999. She is a member of American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the National Association of Professional Women. She and her husband Aleks love dogs, and have a Chihuahua named Bert. Because Dr. Somers had many unpleasant dental experiences (including extractions and root canals without Novocain), she wanted to provide her patients with compassionate and quality dental care. “I chose the dental profession not as a job, but a way to dedicate myself to Margaret E. Somers. D.M.D., P.A. the challenge of meeting each individual patient’s needs,” Dr. Somers explains. “I am dedicated to helping each patient one by one to overcome their dental fears.” She notes that fear often keeps patients from having routine check-ups, and lack of prevention leads to significant dental problems. Dr. Somers provides dental care for entire family, but especially enjoys treating children. The doctor is known for her patience, and never rushes. She also does not like patients to wait, and keeps her appointments timely. Patients love to come to Dr. Somers because she is very warm and personable, and gives her complete attention to each patient. She enjoys educating patients about dental health in terminology they can understand. Her up-to-date modern dental equipment includes digital radiography, which uses 70% less radiation than traditional methods. Dr. Somers would enjoy meeting you and would like to make your dental visit as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Visit Margaret E. Somers, D.M.D., P.A. at 723 Lafayette Avenue in Hawthorne. Were you aware that “The Dink”, the in-house dinosaur, has helped feed the hungry and helped with the medical bills of two Bergen boys? – all thanks to the generosity of the Grow-cery’s young customers and their parents! It is these whimsical “services” that make the Grow-cery special. “We love to see happy faces and smiling eyes when the “perfect” item is found by a new grandmother, an aunt or uncle, a new dad, or a tween who discovers he/she can still shop downtown and find something real `cool’,” she adds. Kilroy’s Wonder Market: Celebrating 95 years know you, Small enough to Frank Kilroylarge enough to serve you.’ -Janis Kilroy Tyrrell is the third generation of Kilroys at the helm of Kilroy’s Wonder Market, the popular Glen Rock supermarket started by her grandfather in 1916. What begun as a grocery store below her grandparents’ apartment on Maple Avenue was replaced by the new, modern facility her father, Frank, erected on Rock Road in 1950 with the help of local stockholders. It retains the old-fashioned supermarket feeling, however. Fresh, quality merchandise, excellent customer service and personal attention are the trademarks of Kilroy’s Wonder Market and give it the edge against stiff competition from supermarket chains. “Our prices are competitive, but you don’t have to walk a mile to get what you need, and our check-out is quick. Our customers enjoy shopping here, and many travel a distance to do so,” says Janis. Kilroy’s carries an extensive grocery line, fresh meats, produce and dairy. Thumann’s cold cuts and a variety of delicious prepared meals are fresh daily. Its liquor department stocks a fine selection of wines, beer and spirits. An integral part of the fabric of the community for eight decades, Kilroy’s supports projects and activities in the schools, in town and in the local area, either through donations or special discounts. Kilroy’s is located at 288 Rock Road, Glen Rock. It is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday; until 7 p.m. on Saturdays and till 6 p.m. on Sundays.
