The “Game On, Glen Rock!” kickoff gala will be held at Saint Leon Church in Fair Lawn on Friday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $75. The event will include dinner, drinks, special fundraising contests and prizes, and a first look at the projected renovation. Entertainment will be provided by Ciaran Sheehan, Irish tenor and Broadway star; Lisa Viggiano, cabaret and jazz performer; and The Connolly Brothers. Teens to assist soldiers Teens Working in Community Service, also known as TWICS -- a division of Glen Rock WICS – will collect toiletries for overseas soldiers and soldiers in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. Items needed items include old DVDs, wipes, toothpaste, powdered drinks, stationery, large and extra-large white T-shirts, large and extra-large socks, packets of soup, hard candy, and gum. Donations may be dropped off in the TWICS bins at the following locations: the Glen Rock Library, the Glen Rock Hardware Store, and Rita’s Ice. The drive will run through April 21. Register for kindergarten enrichment The Glen Rock Jewish Center’s kindergarten enrichment program is currently accepting registrations for 2011-12. Taught by experienced certified teachers, the curriculum covers authors, artists, musicians, hands on science, design, engineering, theater arts, puppetry, world cultures, nature and the environment, Judaica, and community service. Three-day and five-day a week classes are available. Busing from all Glen Rock Elementary Schools and the Radburn School is included. Busing from other schools may also be arranged. Fish & Chips Dinner set Tickets are now available for the Fish & Chips Dinner sponsored by the Women’s Guild of Community Church. The dinner will be held April 14 in Fellowship Hall at the Community Church of Glen Rock, 354 Rock Road. The old-fashioned fish fry, an annual tradition, will be catered by Thistle. Takeout dinners and special orders of chicken must be ordered at time of ticket purchase. Takeout meals will be ready for pickup from 6 to 6:30 p.m.; sitdown dinners will be served continuously from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner includes a fish fillet, french fries, coleslaw, beverages, and dessert. Tickets are $14 for adults and $6.50 for children ages four through 12. Children three years old and under will be admitted free. A family ticket is $35. Proceeds will be used for educational, youth, and women’s service programs. All are welcome. Seniors plan luncheon The Glen Rock Seniors have planned an April 13 trip to the Brownstone in Paterson. Attendees will have lunch and enjoy the music of the ‘50s and ‘60s by “Moonlight Serenade.” The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 10 a.m. The cost is $41 for members and $44 for non-members. Scouts host Pancake Breakfast Boy Scout Troop 27 and Cub Scout Pack 27 of Glen Rock will hold a Pancake Breakfast in the Monsignor Holmes Recreational Building at Saint Catharine’s Church, 905 South Maple Avenue in Glen Rock, on April 17 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The breakfast will include pancakes, sausages, bagels, juice, coffee, and tea. Tickets are $6 per adult, and $20 per family; children age five and under will be admitted free of charge. Tickets may be purchased in advance from Scouts or at the door. Proceeds from the event will be used for Scouting activities, including camping trips. ESL offered at library The Glen Rock Library’s two ESL (English as a Second Language) discussion groups meet each week through June. These informal sessions use the monthly “Easy English News.” Both sessions are led by Glen Rock volunteers Shona Perry, who facilitates the group on Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m., and Kate Mowlem, who leads the group on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The library is located at 315 Rock Road. Language lectures to begin Glen Rock resident Sharon Meyer will repeat her “Talk the Talk” series of language lectures at the Glen Rock Library beginning April 7 at 7:30 p.m. The library is located at 315 Rock Road. The first presentation will be on families of world languages. Later discussions will include “History of the English Language” and “Egyptian Hieroglyphics.” Recently retired from full-time foreign language teaching, Meyer has lived in five European countries. On May 18, the group will travel to Mount Airy Casino. The cost is $25. Attendees will receive $35 for slots. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 9:30 a.m. A photo ID is required by the casinos. The seniors will visit Monmouth Racetrack on Friday, June 17. A buffet luncheon at the Turf Club is included. Jackets are required for men. Jeans and shorts are not permitted.
