Casino Night fundraiser set The Glen Rock Middle School/High School Home School Association will host “Blue Jeans ‘n Bling: A Night in the Wild, Wild West” on Saturday, March 26 from 7 to 11 p.m. This Casino Night fundraiser will be held at Saint Leon Armenian Church, 12-61 Saddle River Road in Fair Lawn. Tickets are $45 per person, and include a light dinner and dessert. Proceeds will go towards the purchase equipment for the science, technology, and performing and visual arts wings of the school. Glen Rock Live concert set The Scott DeCarlo Six plans to put the “rock” back in Glen Rock, when they take the stage on Saturday, March 26, at 8:30 p.m., at the Glen Rock Jewish Center. A portion of proceeds from the concert will benefit AutismNJ, a nonprofit agency that provides information and advocacy for families affected by autism. The Scott DeCarlo Six features lead singer Scott DeCarlo, Glen Rock resident Sam Fishman on drums, and Jason Krebs on keyboards. The band, which has been together for the past two years, has played at Six Flags Great Adventure, The Bitter End, and Mexicali Live. Opening acts will include the band Soft Serve and musician Matt Roy. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for anyone age 18 years and under, with advance purchase. This is a non-alcoholic event. Glen Rock Jewish Center is located at 682 Harristown Road in Glen Rock. Seniors plan trips The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club will host trips in May and June. On May 18, the group will travel to Mount Airy Casino. The cost is $25. Attendees will receive $35 for slots. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 9:30 a.m. A photo ID is required by the casinos. The seniors will visit Monmouth Racetrack on Friday, June 17. A buffet luncheon at the Turf Club is included. Jackets are required for men. Jeans and shorts are not permitted. Nursery school offers transitional kindergarten The Glen Rock Cooperative Nursery School will offer a transitional kindergarten program beginning in September. Children must be five years old by Dec. 31, 2011. The program is for children who need additional time to mature socially and academically before entering traditional kindergarten. The curriculum includes pre-reading skills, enhancing communication, listening, interpersonal skills, the development of fine motor ability, and basic math concepts. Classes are taught by a kindergarten teacher. The program will be offered four afternoons a week with an optional fifth day. Class size is limited.
