Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 23, 2011 Ridgewood Notes Holocaust recital and lecture set Dr. Tamara Freeman, Holocaust music educator and recitalist, will present a Holocaust music lecture-recital at Temple Israel of Ridgewood on March 27 at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Freeman will play songs composed in the ghettos and concentration camps on her 1935 Joseph Bausch viola, which was rescued from the Holocaust. Somerville School is located at 45 South Pleasant Avenue, Ridgewood. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. “WWW DOT” is an original production written and directed by Rosie McCooe. Musical direction is by Bar- bara Donatacci and choreography by Shelley Knight. “WWWDOT” combines the best of “Wizard of Oz,” “The Wiz,” and “Wicked,” adding its own modern twist. Italian Festival Dinner announced The Men’s Fellowship of Emmanuel Baptist Church will sponsor its annual Italian Festival Dinner on Saturday, April 2 This 5:30 p.m. event will be held at the church, located at the corner of East Ridgewood Avenue and Hope Street in Ridgewood. The menu will feature traditional Italian food and desserts. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children; call (201) 444-7300 by March 27. Proceeds from the dinner fund the fellowship’s mission projects. Project Pride volunteers sought Project Pride, sponsored by Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, is seeking new members and is calling on civic groups, donors, and families to participate in its efforts to beautify the village with plantings and holiday decorations throughout the central business district. Volunteer time is flexible. The committee will sponsor its annual Project Pride Day on Saturday, May 21. Annual Rummage Sale planned The annual Rummage Sale sponsored by the Women’s Guild of Christ Church in Ridgewood, will be held April 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and April 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. The sale will be held in the Great Hall of Christ Church at Cottage Place and Franklin Avenue. This popular event features household items, jewelry, attic treasures, appliances, books, toys, and clothing. Admission is free. Proceeds benefit the Women’s Guild outreach and scholarship programs. Church in Ridgewood will present its parish mission on April 4, 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. in the church. This year’s theme is “Lead Us to the Water: An Experience of Home, Word, Table, Song, and Story.” Multi-talented recording artists Val Limar Jansen and Tom Kendzia will lead in song and prayer. OPRC sets Community Family Night A Community Family Night of refreshments, fun, and learning for children and parents will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1, at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church’s barrier-free Education Building at 660 Glen Avenue, Ridgewood. “The Strange World of Reptiles,” a unique experience best suited for children three years of age and up, will be presented by Snakes-n-Scales of Pequannock, the largest animal outreach education organization of New Jersey. Under the watchful eyes of experienced teachers, various types of live reptiles may be touched while background is given about each animal. All the animals have been rescued. All are welcome. This program is for village students in grades kindergarten through grade two. In this mini-art camp students will learn about artists who have enjoyed shaping their art explorations with math. Use of patterns, shapes, and lines will round out the fun. Students will learn about artists Escher, Mondrian, and others. The workshop will be held at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, on Wednesday, April 13 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. This cost is $50 and includes all materials. Lunchtime Lenten program offered The First Presbyterian Church, 722 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, will offer a one-hour noontime Lenten program, featuring a soup lunch and a brief traditional worship on March 23. There will be a short video and discussion about Ray Vanderlaan’s “The Promised Land.” Topics will include the Promised Land, the violence against Israel’s enemies, “wet feet,” and the murder room. An evening program and service will also be offered on March 23. Coffee and cookies will be served. Discussion topics will include Israel’s prostitute heroine, tithing, Samson, and the Philistines.
