Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 16, 2011 Glen Rock Roundup Auxiliary hosts Spring Luncheon The Spring Luncheon and Games Party sponsored by the Glen Rock Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will be held Monday, March 28 at 12:30 p.m. in the municipal annex located at 678 Maple Avenue. This event will include lunch, card games, and door prizes. Men and women of the community are welcome. Clubs and bridge groups are encouraged to make table reservations. All proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Valley Hospital programs and equipment needs. Preschool registration announced The Glen Rock Community School has announced registration dates for its Mom & Tot and Terrific for Tots preschool programs for 2011-12. Open registration for members of all communities will begin March 15 at 9 a.m. in the lobby of Glen Rock High School, 600 Harristown Road in Glen Rock. A birth certificate or passport must be presented. Preschool classes include Mom & Tot for a parent and toddler who will be 18 to 30 months of age by Oct. 1, 2011. The Mom & Tot program is designed to encourage speech, motor, social, and emotional skills through play and group interaction. During the latter portion of the class, parents and children have separate, planned activities within the same room and can touch base with each other as needed. Terrific for Tots is for preschoolers who will be two-and-a-half, three, or four as of Oct. 1, 2011. Children explore arts and crafts, music, educational games, perceptual motor activities, and listening activities. This fall, several additions will be made to Terrific for Tots. One-day and two-day options will be available for children who are two-and-a-half. A Lunch Bunch program is being offered to extend the toddler’s day for one hour. The three-year-old class, which meets three days per week, is also offering a new Lunch Bunch option that will extend class one or two days per week. The four year-old class will include two options: a four-day program that meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and an optional add-on fifth day on Wednesdays. In addition, the Lunch Bunch program has been extended to one, two, or three days each week; children begin class an hour earlier. On May 18, the group will travel to Mount Airy Casino. The cost is $25. Attendees will receive $35 for slots. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 9:30 a.m. A photo ID is required by the casinos. The seniors will visit Monmouth Racetrack on Friday, June 17. A buffet luncheon at the Turf Club is included. Jackets are required for men. Jeans and shorts are not permitted. Vennel discusses NASA program Laura Vennel, NASA representative and educator associated with the observatory at the Meadowlands Environmental Center and the Hayden Planetarium, will address The Activities Club on Tuesday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. Vennel will speak on the space program and its impact on our daily lives. The Activities Club is also forming golf groups for the spring/summer season, scheduled to begin on April 14. Terry McMahon and Joseph Tuttle will present “Design Principles for a Backyard Retreat” at 7:45 p.m. at the Glen Rock Municipal Annex, 678 Maple Avenue. Both guest speakers are landscape designers with Borst Landscape & Design of Allendale. They have many years of experience in landscape design and construction. This meeting is open to all. On April 20, the seniors will travel to the Huntington Hills Playhouse to see “Blithe Spirit.” Lunch will be included with the performance. Transitional kindergarten offered The Glen Rock Cooperative Nursery School will offer a transitional kindergarten program beginning in September. Children must be five years old by Dec. 31, 2011. The program is for children who need additional time to mature socially and academically before entering traditional kindergarten. The curriculum includes prereading skills, enhancing communication, listening, interpersonal skills, the development of fine motor ability, and basic math concepts. Classes are taught by a kindergarten teacher. The program will be offered four afternoons a week with an optional fifth day. Class size is limited.
