Two candidates file for three seats on BOE
The Glen Rock Board of Education has one seat available for write-in this year as two incumbents filed for re-election, leaving one of the three three-year seats officially uncontested. Administration sources said that any candidate who achieved a plurality of write-in votes would automatically become the third winner in the school election if otherwise qualified. School Board President Rona McNabola and incumbent trustee Randi Blumberg filed for three-year terms, but Bill Clark, a two-term incumbent, opted not to seek another term this year. The board has forwarded a tentative $45.5-million budget to the state for approval with a general fund of $41,591,896 and a local tax levy of $40,033,500. The hearing on the budget will be on March 28. Amendments may still be made. The district achieved the two percent budget cap by outsourcing custodial and teacher’s aide jobs. This controversial decision was opposed by the teachers’ union and by many parents. J. KOSTER
