DECA team members earn first place awards
by John Koster Ridgewood’s 150 DECA contestants scored a number of first place awards at the Northern Regional DECA individual competitions. Ryan Ardelle took first place overall and first place in role play in the professional selling event against 13 competitors. Nick Coppola and Jack Foresman took first place in sports and entertainment marketing decision making against 64 teams, and placed second in role play. Ridgewood’s Brian Collins placed third in the written exam. Daniel Ku took first place overall and first place in the role play in hotel and lodging against 61 competitors. Sara Shea won a first place award overall in apparel and accessories and took second place in the written exam, competing against 75 participants. Michael Nehring scored second place in principles of finance and second place in role play and written exam against 26 participants. Paul Mallalieu scored second place in principles of hospitality and third place in role play. Third place awards went to: Nina Stepanov in apparel and accessories, with third place in role play; Alex Breitbart in automotive services, with third place in role play; Mark Chung and Justin Shin in business law and ethics; Matthew Cardew and Christopher Derrico in hospitality team decision making, with second place in role play; Jennifer Martin in principles of marketing, with a third place in role play; and Syad Abbas Raza and Ibrahim

A representative of Children’s Aid and Family Services in Ridgewood reported last week that someone had stolen $2,500 from a safe in the office of one of the residential homes the group manages. The Ridgewood Police Department is investigating the theft, which took place some time before March 3. The police were notified on March 7. On March 4, in an unrelated incident, a Ridgewood Avenue business reported that someone had deposited three forged checks in a bank account in Arizona. The Ridgewood Police Department is investigating.
