All Pro Tennis will provide small group instruction to players at all levels. Classes will be held on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Somerville Courts for five consecutive weeks beginning May 13. Rain dates will be made up. The fee for the five-week session has been discounted for seniors to $45. Registration can be made in person or by mail to The Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue. Spring tennis instruction offered The Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with All Pro Tennis, will offer two spring tennis sessions for village residents. Youth participants may choose from Thursday or Friday classes for both sessions. Session I, beginning March 31, will be held at the Bellair Tennis Courts. Session II will begin the second week of May at Somerville Tennis Courts. Both sessions will meet at the following times: kindergarteners and first graders from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; second and third graders from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; fourth and fifth graders from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and sixth graders and up from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Session I for the adult classes will be held on Fridays beginning April 1 at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Session II for adults, beginning the second week of May, will be offered at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Adult lessons will be held at Sommerville Courts. The fee for each five-week instruction session is $95. All rain cancellations will be made up. Fish & Chips Dinner set Christ Episcopal Church will hold a Fish & Chips Dinner on Wednesday, March 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Great Hall. Catered by Tastefully British, the dinner will include homemade desserts and beverages. The cost is $13 per person; two young children may share one dinner. Wrestling equipment collection underway Ridgewood High School’s wrestling squad is collecting used or new wrestling shoes and headgear for high school teams that have seen sharing equipment throughout the season. The team asks residents to check their closets for any wrestling gear that is no longer needed and bring these items to the collection boxes at the following locations: Ridgewood High School in the athletic trainer’s office, 627 East Ridgewood Avenue; Olympic Wrestling, 500 Main Street in Wyckoff; and 365 Cedar Avenue or 300 Richards Road, Ridgewood. Monetary donations are also welcome and will be used to purchase new equipment. Checks may be made out to Ridgewood High School Wrestling may be dropped off at any of above locations. Dinc exhibits ‘Prelude to Spring’ Artist Alev Necile Dinc will exhibit her oil paintings “Prelude to Spring” at the Stable Art Gallery in Ridgewood during the month of March. Dinc, born in Turkey, began her studies at the Institute of Technology in Ankara. After immigrating to the United States, she continued her education at the Fashion Institute of Technology studying textile and graphic design. Her ideas stem from museums, libraries and history books. She has previously exhibited at The Paterson Museum in Paterson, The Peace Museum in Detroit, Michigan, Lambert Castle Museum in Paterson, Turkish House Gallery in New York, Morin Miller Gallery in New York City, Mussavi Arts Center in New York, and Women in Art & Culture in Beijing, China. An Artist Reception is slated for Sunday, March 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. All are invited to attend. Acrylic art instruction offered The Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department will offer an evening adult acrylic painting session with artist/instructor Sandi Chanoch. Participants will receive individual attention and will be provided with goals and objectives to help them find their own personal approach to painting. This session is offered at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, as follows: Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. on March 10, 17, 24, and 31, and April 7 and 21. Class will not be held on April 14. The cost for the six sessions is $80. A $10 additional fee will apply to non-residents. Materials are additional; a list will be provided on the first day. Blood Drive set Emmanuel Baptist Church at 14 Hope Street in Ridgewood will hold a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. to ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. To schedule an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Lifeguard training course offered The Ridgewood YMCA will offer a lifeguard training course for persons age 16 and over, March 30 through May 6. Classes will meet on Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Ridgewood Y, 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. The cost of the program is $350 per person. All participants must pass a prerequisite water skills test on Thursday, March 24 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee for participants to take the test. YMCA Lifeguard Training is a national program designed to train advanced swimmers in the skills needed to prevent water accidents and save lives. YMCA Lifeguard Certification is nationally recognized and accepted for lifeguard employment at pool and lake facilities.
