March 9, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 11 Glen Rock Roundup Spring Theatre Festival coming up The Glen Rock Theatre Company will present its Spring Theatre Festival on March 10, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the all purpose room at Glen Rock High School. The festival features original plays written, produced, and performed by students. Tickets may be purchased at the Glen Rock High School Hamilton Lobby on March 7, 8, and 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the door the day of the performances. All proceeds support the Glen Rock High School Theatre Company. Vennel discusses NASA program Laura Vennel, NASA representative and educator associated with the observatory at the Meadowlands Environmental Center and the Hayden Planetarium, will address The Activities Club on Tuesday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. Vennel will speak on the space program and its impact on our daily lives. The Activities Club is also forming golf groups for the spring/summer season, scheduled to begin on April 14. WICS to host Blood Drive The Glen Rock Women in Community Service will host a Blood Drive on March 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Central School gymnasium at 600 Maple Avenue. The drive will be held in conjunction with Community Blood Services. All types of blood are needed, especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Appointments are encouraged, but walkins are also welcome. Ash Wednesday at Good Shepherd Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Rock Road and Ackerman Avenue in Glen Rock, has planned two services for Ash Wednesday, March 9. Both services will be held in the chapel and will include Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. The first service will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a breakfast hosted by the Women of the ELCA. While the church roof is under repair, Sunday morning services are being held at Central Elementary School, 600 Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. Transitional kindergarten offered The Glen Rock Cooperative Nursery School will offer a transitional kindergarten program beginning in September. Children must be five years old by Dec. 31, 2011. The program is for children who need additional time to mature socially and academically before entering traditional kindergarten. The curriculum includes prereading skills, enhancing communication, listening, interpersonal skills, the development of fine motor ability, and basic math concepts. Classes are taught by a kindergarten teacher. The program will be offered four afternoons a week with an optional fifth day. Class size is limited. Vocalist Jackie Jones and her Trio will be the featured musicians at the 5 p.m. worship service. Due to the closure of the sanctuary from damage sustained to the roof supports, Jazz Vespers will take place in the chapel. The worship service, now in its eleventh season, is held on the second Sunday of the month. The next service will be April 10.
