Blood Drive to be held Temple Israel, Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church of Ridgewood, and the Muslim Society of Ridgewood are sponsoring a Blood Drive on Sunday, March 6, from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Temple Israel, 475 Grove Street in Ridgewood. All blood donations will support Community Blood Services in Paramus. With the current blood supply shortage, the community operates on a one-day supply of blood. Because blood is perishable, it must be replenished every day so there are sufficient supplies for emergency medical treatments, trauma and burn victims, and cancer, surgical, and organ transplant patients. Walk-ins are welcome. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Lenten services to begin Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church has announced two Lenten events. On March 9, Ash Wednesday services will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., with Pastor Rev. Tom Marsden officiating and distributing ashes. Beginning March 15, a Lenten Discussion Series will be moderated by OPRC Health Ministry Director Carol O’Neill. New productions of the NOOMA DVD series will be presented for group exploration. Each Tuesday through April 19, sessions will be offered at 10:30 a.m. or 7:30 p.m., in the barrier-free Education Building. An ongoing DVD Bible Study Series on the New Testament will be suspended for Lent and will resume after Easter. Members of the community are welcome. The church is located at 660 East Glen Avenue at Route 17. For more information, call (201) 444-5933.
